French youths jostle minister after riot overnight

    AMIENS, France | Tue Aug 14, 2012 8:33am EDT

(Reuters) - Youths fired buckshot at police in clashes in the French city of Amiens overnight on Tuesday, torching cars and a nursery school in a resurgence of urban unrest that President Francois Hollande said he would do everything to confront.

Hollande dispatched his Interior Minister Manuel Valls to the northern city, where two nights of violence were apparently sparked by tension over spot police checks on residents.

Officials said 16 police officers were hurt in the disturbances, some struck by buckshot others hit by a hail of missiles thrown by around 100 youths who gathered in northern districts of Amiens.

One officer was in a serious condition, the city's Socialist Mayor Gilles Demailly told Reuters.

Speaking during a visit to southeastern France, Hollande said the state would "mobilize all its resources to combat this violence", which has shaken depressed quarters of major French cities at regular intervals.

"Security resources have sadly be declining for too many years," said Hollande. "Our priority is security which means that the next budget will include additional resources for the gendarmerie and the police."

Reinforcements were being dispatched to the suburb, parts of which had already classified as a "priority security zone" in need of extra policing. The policy formed part of the Socialists' election campaign pledge on law and order.

The unrest was the first major law and order test for Hollande's ruling Socialists following his May election victory over conservative incuмbent Nicolas Sarkozy, whose tough policies on crime and immigration some critics said fanned urban unrest.

    SMOULDERING RUINS

During a night of disturbances, rioters set fire to a number of vehicles, in some cases hauling the drivers out of their cars before burning them, mayor Demailly said.

Gutted buildings, including a nursery school, and burnt out cars were still smoldering early on Tuesday, though the streets were otherwise calm. No-one has been arrested so far.

Valls, a law and order hardliner who irks some fellow Socialists, was dispatched to Amiens from southern France where he was on official business with Hollande.

"This violence towards police, these buildings that were burned down, these people gripped by fear - this is unacceptable," Valls told reporters.

Some leftwing critics say his tough talk bears uncomfortable parallels with the strong line taken by Sarkozy.

As mayor of a racially mixed suburb before being appointed to Hollande's government, Valls served more than 10 years ago as a spokesman for Socialist former Prime Minister Lionel Jospin, whose 2002 presidential election defeat was partly put down to his image as soft on law and order.

Tensions remain high in many French suburbs, where poor job prospects, racial discrimination, a widespread sense of alienation from mainstream society and perceived hostile policing have periodically touched off violence.

Weeks of rioting in 2005, the worst urban unrest in France in 40 years, led to the imposition of a state of emergency by the then center-right government. Incidents involving police provoked disturbances in 2007 and 2010.

The repeat bouts of violence have provoked agonized debate over the state of the grim housing estates that ring many French cities and the integration of millions of poor whites, blacks and North African immigrants into mainstream society.

I wonder if this is one of those “mo-go” muslim controlled areas.

Never mention the specifics…………..unless its a white domestic terrorist."

  • French city of Amiens rocked by riots

Sixteen officers injured and public buildings burnt down in violent clashes between youths and riot police in northern France

Violent clashes between youths and riot police in the northern French city of Amiens have left 16 officers injured and several public buildings torched in some of the worst rioting in the area for years – reopening the fraught political debate about France's troubled housing estates.

Rioting broke out on deprived estates in the north of the city at 9pm on Monday and raged until 4am. Around 100 youths set fire to cars, a nursery school and a youth centre as well as firing buckshot and projectiles at police officers, who saturated the streets with teargas as reinforcements arrived from neighbouring areas.

"The confrontations were very, very violent,"
the mayor of Amiens, Gilles Dumailly, told French television network BFM, describing "a scene of devastation".

There had been unrest among youths on housing estates in Amiens-Nord earlier this month and again on Sunday night, apparently sparked by tensions over spot checks by police on residents.

French media reported that violence broke out between local residents and the police following a check on a driver said to be driving dangerously, near to the spot where the family and friends of a 20-year-old who died in a motorbike crash on Thursday had gathered for a memorial ceremony.

As the unrest grew police fired teargas and flashball rounds. The poor relationship between police and local youths has often been the source of conflict on housing estates across France.

The northern area of Amiens in the Somme is classed among the 15 most troubled neighbourhoods in France. It was recently included in a list of the government's new "priority security zones", which will get a reinforced police presence.

There were riots in Amiens during the nationwide disturbances in 2005 across France's housing estates. The city has often experienced unrest, but the prefect's office said there had never been violence "as serious as this". Public buildings including a nursery school and sports centre were destroyed by fire, causing an estimated €1m (£800,000) in damage.

The far-right Front National party immediately seized on the unrest in the run-down neighbourhood to link insecurity in France to the issue of "massive immigration".

The president, François Hollande, said his interior minister, Manuel Valls, would go to Amiens "immediately" to "say once again that the state will mobilise all its resources to combat this violence". He added: "Our priority is security, which means that the next budget will include additional resources for the gendarmerie and the police."

  •  You see just how exactly the liberal, Jєωιѕн-controlled MSM controls the language and perception of the story. The perfect example is the usage of the term "youths" for the rioters, they want the readers to have this image of a collage of young French teenagers just acting out aggression because of poverty and "alienation" when everyone damn well knows it's the darker races of Muslims with a few token idiot whites attacking the French and it's authorities because they hate them for their very existence and the fact that they have not yet taken control of the culture.

This is going on in every white European nation where laxed "immigration" laws have forced the savages from the Levant and the Dark Continent almost at gunpoint on an unsuspecting native population. This is the reality of the situation.

This is what liberal white socialists and commie Jєωs  effecting policies bring to your culture, nothing but violence, chaos, death and destruction.

The French know exactly what's going on, unwanted Islamists and blacks destroying their country. But the leftists media will keep beating the mantra of " youths, youths, youths, youths...". and how this is more of a social and "economic" issue instead of a cultural, religious and racial/ethnic one.

All lies, the reality is .....Diversity= Death.

France in 10 to 20 years will either be  a white Christian European nation again or a quasi third world "multicultural", Sharia dominated Muslim cesspool.......Not both.

  •   Muslim authorities do have a particular hatred for France which might be because of colonization of Algeria. But how is it that Britain and Spain (with it's Queen Isabelle) are not hated as much as France is?

Riiiiight. If it wasn't for that ancestral white guilt, the Muslims would behave themselves and be perfectly fit for importation to Europe. Let us not consider the millions of Europeans kidnapped and enslaved by the Arabs over the centuries.

Oh I believe it goes further back than that, many a time has the Muslim publicly vented his rage over the Crusades with the Franks (French) being the dominant invader of the Holy Land (In their mind, Muslim land) and laying waste to much of the Levant until their savior Saladin came down from Damascus, uniting the many tribes of Islam and finally forced out the hated Christians. Islam hasn't forgotten that it was in France that the Catholic pope gave the rallying cry that eventually began the whole Crusade, this coupled with places like Algeria is part of the payback.

What Islam and the distorters of history that condemn the Crusade fail to mention is the fact that Islam had already forcibly penetrated Europe and France itself  hundreds of years before the Crusades until Charles Martel beat them back to their own realms where they belonged.

What the apologizers of Islam will never tell you is that most of the lands they now occupy in North Africa and the Middle East were at one time Christian.

Islam, is a state-building religion, it's very nature prevents it from "peacefully" coexisting with other faiths, unless it is the dominant religion there calling the shots and regulating how the "infidel" conducts himself and worships.

Sharia or a Caliphate is the goal in France and these little riots from French "youths" will continue until the Crescent flies high above the Eiffel tower, believe it.

  • What an opportunity!
Now is the time to send Father Rostand back to France.
    He'll straighten the muslims out.
"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

  • Did not the French bring their own art, culture, technology, etc. to the people of their empire? Why are the French now asked to be ashamed of their imperial past? Is it not by Marxists, Socialists, etc. that France is now derided of her imperial task along with Arabs?

Not only Arabs but Africans have also rioted in the streets in Paris. This indeed shows that "diversity is..." NOT "...our strength." Aren't their talks of French Muslim fashion now?

Islam is by its very nature very barbaric and is a religion of conquest.

Oh are you referring to the London subway bombers? Are you referring to the British imams in London talking of jihad? Are you referring to the Arabs and Africans trying to get into Spain by force these days, where Spanish police and soldiers have to actually try and shoot them to make them scatter from the Strait of Gibraltar, because they are trying to invade Spain? Is that peaceful Arab behavior to you?

  •   No. I didn't mean they were not hated. I meant they were not hated as much as France is. Because muslim authorities focus so much on France. If you come to us and see how all the fundamentalist news papers and website focus on France you will believe in what I said.
The catholic church here is empty because her priest was a french man. But angelican ''church'' is open it's ministers come and go even though they come from Britain. Why? because mullah fear France more than they fear Britain.

  • In light of Spouse of Jesus's others posts I don't think that she wrote what she did out of some sort of veiled sympathy for mohammedans, but rather simply out of genuine curiosity.
Unless God intervenes, the Europe of the future most likely will be Arabian, Turkish, Berber &c., as the apostate European peoples have seen fit to contracept & abort themselves out of existence. Islam is God's scourge, just like Genghis Khan & Attila were before. It'll all be over soon enough, it can't be long now.

  •   Europe is not as immigration friendly as America and Canada. So people who love to migrate to Europe usually fake they are refugees. They claim they are being persecuted in their own Countries. They claim they are gαys, Baha'is, fighters for human rights, muslim apostates etc. just to have access to Europe usually at the cost of real sincere refugees. Also some feminists exhausted by high demands of middle eastern men, migrate because they have heard that European men have a fantastically low desire for women, never gaze at ladies, never ask them to wear heavy make up and keep their bodies in shape. Others migrate with the hope of avoiding water shortage of their own lands.

Well no offense but my grandparents went to Iran under the Shah. I wouldn't want to go to Iran now. :P

I do believe in ending our Cold War with Iran though.

It seems that Muslims know which countries are the easiest to push around, since Islam is a  conquering faith. And Europe doesn't have enough immigration laws to keep Arabs and Africans out.
