Don't trust in yourself. We are all weak, we may fall, if we expose ourselve to false teachings.
There was a man who wanted to read a heretical book in order to write sth against it. He red it and lost his faith.

I think that it could be a danger - but it's contextual - the Church is a missionary church and if the missionaries avoided every sinner and pagan for fear of being tainted the Church would never have spread.
