Response From the Archbishop of Oviedo , Carlos Osoro Sierra, Current Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Santander , to Edward Kelly of the United States Who Wrote to Him Regarding the Apparitions of Garabandal

     May 7, 2007

     Dear Edward,

Acknowledging receipt of your kind letter presenting to me your assessment of the events at Garabandal, I want you to know that
I am open to all information and to every consideration about Garabandal, and I want to continue in this manner, as long as the Holy Father sees fit for me to be Apostolic Administrator, what my brothers in the episcopacy have done regarding the subject in question.  What I have done now is authorize priests to go to Garabandal and celebrate Mass there at whatever hour they desire, and to administer the Sacrament of Reconciliation to as many people who desire it there.

I am sure that the next bishop will advance the studies of the Garabandal events so they may be examined more deeply with the results being sent to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome .

I respect the apparitions and have known of authentic conversions.  In light of these events, how can we not always feel the need to open our heart to our mother Mary to tell her that we need her protection, help, spirit, desire, faith, hope and love!  I encourage you to continue maintaining this devotion to our Mother.

If your are interested in speaking with me, don't hesitate to ask for an audience at the Santander bishopric through the Vicar General.  There they can take down all your information and set the date and hour for the visit.

Hoping to count on your continued prayers and cooperation, I extend to you my most cordial greeting and give you my blessing.

     /s/Carlos, Archbishop of Oviedo
     Apostolic Administrator of Santander

  • Joey Lomangino is dead and died blind.

Game over; as far as I am concerned.

That prophecy was not only crystal clear and not subject to any interpretation but Joey himself was central to the Garabandal message being spread.  It wasn't some side prophecy of vague thing on page 65 of an obscure book but rather a major part of the Garabandal pitch.  Conchita had 50 years to correct herself and did not.  Joey died blind and then we get all of this "spiritual eyes in heaven" malarkey.

In 2014 when Joey died, I bookmarked all of the websites where the exact words of Conchita Gonzalez about Joey getting his physical eyes back on the day of the miracle were recorded since I knew what was coming next.  Today 95% of those websites have been purged.  Altering history is the method of a con-artist or charlatan.  Likewise comments on forums and blogs are deleted by the Garabandal promoters who don't want doubt cast on their pet apparition.

But with these dubious editing practices we would believe in Bayside or Medjugorje.  Like the curate's egg, all apparitions are "good in parts".

The latest insanity is that the doubt caused by Joey Lomangino being dead was spun as "people doubting" as if not believing a prophecy that clearly has not and cannot come true somehow displays a lack of faith or doubt.  It's the ultimate True Scotsman paradox.   "Only the true messiah denies his own divinity".

It's completely nutty-nutbar to believe in visions where their own false prophecies have show them to be false prophets.  If you cannot justifiably reject an apparition on that basis then on what basis CAN you reject one?

It even says in scripture to judge a prophet by whether their prophecy proves true.  And reject those that fail that test.  It could not be clearer.

  • Here

    https://catholicism.org/joey-lomangino-blind-garabandal-devotee-passed-away-r-i-p.html

See three quarters of the way down the first page of comments from "Pat and Derry".  Video has now been taken down, (surprise surprise) but Conchita's own words in that video were that Joey on the day of the miracle "would regain his sight and remain cured".

If you are already dead, you can in no way shape or form "remain cured".

God would have to resurrect Joey from the dead (but blind) then give him new eyeballs on the day of the miracle and then have him say alive in order to remain cured.

Frankly if God resurrected Joey as a paraplegic I'll be more impressed.  Coming back to life after being dead for 5+ years is a much greater miracle that a couple of new physical eyes, why mention it if you are going to resurrect him?

  • 18 mins 30 seconds into the video.  Word accurate transcription.

Conchita:  For example, God says that Joey Lomangino, will regain his sight and the first thing he will see will be the miracle; and he'll remain cured.

Interviewer:  Now I know Joey from here in America, now he is totally blind.  Did she [Our Lady] name him by name?

Conchita:  Yes Joey Lomangino.  And it was on the 19th of March 1963.

  • I don't believe that Garabandal was a fraud; I believe it was diabolical, with the intent being to distract from the Third Secret of Fatima, which was to have been revealed by that time.

You had incidents of the kids running backwards up steep hills, and various other things happening upside down.  With anything backwards and upside down, the smell of sulphur is almost palpable.

  • Possible.  The backwards walking is certainly unusual.  I cannot think of any satanic possession cases where people walked backwards for a prolonged period of time.  Can you?

Seems like a lot of effort for not much reward.  It is a bit of a sideshow.  Barring a few Trads, Bishop Williamson, and apparition chasers who has heard of it?  Cannot have more than 1000 people still interested worldwide.  I went there, it is a sleepy little village with not much going on and that was BEFORE Joey died.  Even at the time the number of visitors to the village were small bearing in mind what they were claiming was happening.  Even on their peak day they maybe had 800-1000 people in Garabandal.  Fatima had 70,000 !

Medjugorje on the other hand is huge.  There I can see Satan getting a good return on investment.

Has Bishop Williamson made any statements on Garabandal since Joey Lomangino's death?  He used to believe in it but he was never an avid promoter of it.  Cautious curiosity would be accurate.

He's pretty rational so he must have changed his mind now.

Walking backwards just sounds strange. If I saw someone walking backwards and they'd told me they saw a vision, I'd sooner think possession than apparition.

  • What would you think of a visionary who ate earth (mud), drank muddy water and smeared it on her face?

The crowd watching at the time were shocked and disgusted and her own practicing Catholic mother beat her.

  • Hardly matters.  She was verifiably wrong about the Joey Lomangino prophecy.  So either it was not Our Lady telling her or Conchita is an unreliable witness.  And if she is unreliable about a simple thing, then why trust her on global warnings and chastisements?

Credibility matters.  Scripture says to test a prophet by their prophecy.  (Not to mention that common sense suggests the same thing)

Get it right or go home.

And the local bishop there rejected/condemned the apparition, while the Vatican rejected appeals of his decision.  So that's the end of it as far as I'm concerned.
