Well, it would appear that this "exhibition" was orchestrated by the secular authority in charge of the Coliseum site. But that is sacred ground. Where was the Vatican protesting this? You place a demon in front of the place where all those martyrs shed their blood, many of them for their refusal to honor this pagan filth.

You are probably right that the secular authorities authorized it, but I thought that it was still considered a church and was governed by the NO church. I could be wrong.

Yes, I always THOUGHT that the Vatican had some stake in it, but there was mention of some organization Parco de Colipseo that sponsored this.
Ironically, there's a cross in the Colosseum now ... along with a plaque that reads:
The amphitheater, one consecrated to triumphs, entertainments, and the impious worship of pagan gods, is now dedicated to the sufferings of the martyrs purified from impious superstitions.
I guess we're back to the "impious worship of pagan gods". And Moloch is one of the most overtly diabolical of them all.

And then the bishop of Rome went to the Colosseum and rolled up his sleeves, personally (with a bit of help-- the thing is heavy...) pulled down the horrid beast, smashed it to smithereens and exhorted the people to remember the holy martyrs. He then exorcised the Colosseum and went home. The end.
Sometimes I just wish for a happy ending. :'(
