  • Since Mississippi failed to pass the bill against abortion that brings me to a question that has been nagging me for a while.

Does the Southern Culture reject contraception?

I know that they oppose abortion in general.

  • Born and raised in South Carolina. The culture per se does not reject birth control. While some evangelical denominations do not beleive in birth control, the mainstream denominations do not seem to have an opinion one way or the other. Abortion is oposed by many, but Methodists, Presbyterian, and other denominations vary widely on "right to choose". When I was growing up (60's) abortion was never spoken about in public. When someone became pregnant, the marriage quickly followed. Attitudes changed here just as in most other parts of the country due in part to the onslaught of TV saturation of "its OK, really it is" ideology hidden as soap opera and prime time programming. The stigma soon evaporated in the cities first, then in the more rural areas. Sad. The pro-life movement is strong, however and seems to be growing.

With truly lamentable results, our age, casting aside all restraint in its search for the ultimate causes of things, frequently pursues novelties so ardently that it rejects the legacy of the human race.   "Lamentabili Sane Exitu" Pope St. Pi
