Q: Why do you feel more liberty if the information is written in ink only rather then, additionally on a chip ?
A: "The information" is actually not written on anything I carry. Only minimal information is on my drivers' license, for the purpose of identifying me as a vaild driver. My SS# is in my head, and that should suffice. There is no history of my health or life, no info about how much is in my bank accounts, what my religion is, how much debt I have, just the needed identification for the basic purpose of driving, to which I have consented.
I feel more liberty if I can offer a normal drivers' license, (not a multifunctional National ID Card deceptively called a drivers' license,) to a federal agency as a form of valid identification, without it being turned down. This will soon no longer be possible.
You said, "Personally, I would not feel oppressed by the measure. Your cancer argument would need to be substantiated for me to consider it seriously."
Cell phones have shown to most probably cause brain tumors with enough exposure. For this reason, I avoid them. Anything with a radio frequency causes radiation, and since no one knows what the exact implications of this are for the health of a person, it is completely unfair to force Americans to carry cards with radio frequency chips in them just to be able to drive!!!
They are telling us, "We don't know exactly what this will do to your health, but our best guess says it's safe, so you MUST carry it, because WE say so, or else you know what we'll do to you? We'll revoke your driving priveleges!"
Something tells me if they said it like that, people would widely rebel. It certainly isn't an American thing for our government to do, but since they spend lots of tax dollars finding ways to pretty up the idea to force-feed it to us, it is happening anyway.
And here is directly where we are headed within the next few years. Once forced National ID cards become accepted and commonplace, in a country where cosmetic surgeries are the norm, there is no reason why people who don't mind the cancer risk of cell phones won't want to just implant the chips to make it so they won't lose them.
