MICHAEL HOFFMAN'S RESEARCH LIBRARY TO BE PUT UP FOR SALE

Later this month I will be offering the major portion of my private
research library for sale, as well as almost my entire collection of
rare books, including some from the 16th century.

This is a substantial undertaking - grading, pricing and writing
descriptions for all of these books - so I am not exactly certain when
in the month of June they will be offered. However, this is advance
notice that these books will be sold on a first-come, first-served
basis.

None of the volumes offered for sale can or will be held in reserve for
anyone. Payment will be in US checks or US or international postal money
orders. Credit cards and Paypal will not be accepted because I can't
afford to give those entities their "cut" of the proceeds.

There will be many categories to choose from: Islamic studies; medieval,
Renaissance and British secret service; occult and conspiracy; US
colonial and labor history; and of course one of the finest collections
of Judaica extant.

I am undertaking this sale for the sole reason of endeavoring to reprint
and then continue to try and advertise my book "Judaism Discovered,"
which, last March, was the subject of a vicious libel by a Judaic
reviewer which was published in an influential conservative Catholic
magazine, as well as on the reviewer's own international website (my
rebuttal was refused publication by the Catholic magazine). It is
probably the most effective attack ever launched against this writer or
on one of my books since I entered public life in 1978.

The cost of reprinting 1200 copies of a huge hardcover book using the
highest quality printing method (sewn signatures), by the best US
printer for university publishers, and then having these large, heavy
books shipped by truck from the east to the west, is many thousands of
dollars.

Furthermore, while most advertising venues are closed to us and the book
is banned by Amazon.com, we still very much want to try to make "Judaism
Discovered" known to the tens of thousands of readers who would indeed
buy it if they had accurate knowledge of its contents.

I well understand the implications of selling off most of my research
library for the future of my writing. It has taken me most of life to
locate and acquire these books and I had hoped to write at least a half
dozen more books based on research leads gleaned from their pages.

I have thought long and hard about selling my library. I have come to
the conclusion that "Judaism Discovered" is more important, and that it
needs to stay in print. One only has to look at today's headlines to
know why. This 1102 page book represents a significant portion of my
life's work and to prematurely extinguish it would, in my judgement, be
exactly what the traditional enemies of truth most ardently desire. It
would be like saying to them, "I surrender."

I am enough of a fighter to believe in my work and to continue to
contend for it, even when the rest of the world does not, and friends
and allies are few; that's the nature of war.

Man... if only I had about ten grand or so. It would be terrible if someone bought up his research books just to burn them! Let's see if it's possible to save whatever we can from his library for history's sake!

Will you be helping in the salvaging roscoe?

*sigh* If only I was rich... I would collect and preserve books for the future generations.  :sad:
