Here is the story.

Yasiel Puig, a Cuban, who is a fielder for the Dodgers defected from Cuba to Mexico. By going to Mexico instead of the USA Puig was allowed to be a free agent instead of having to go through the draft (meaning more money).

So Puig agreed to pay the smuggler who got him to Mexico $400,000 dollars.

When they got to Mexico the smuggler double crossed Puig, selling him out to a drug cartel. Basically the smuggler "sold" Puig to the cartel.

Puig had no choice but to agree that he would pay 20% of his MLB income to the cartel.

Puig got hired by the Dodgers with a $42 million dollar contract for 7 seasons.

Do the math- the cartel already paid the smuggler at least $400,000 (probably more) and feel that Puig owes them over $8,000,000.

Puig will not pay. Another athlete who came over with Puig was approached by the cartel in NYC and they put a gun in his gut and told them to give Puig an ultimatum.

The cartel then murdered the smuggler in Cancun to send the message.

Many Dodger players are uneasy about their safety. In the end the Dodgers may have to fire Puig.

My guess is Puig is going to get killed and this is going to outrage the US public.

Just a heads up. This came out recently when the friend of Puig went to police and signed a statement.
