The title of this thread is wrong.
It should say Meteor sounds and sights. Meteorites don't make sound.
Meteorites are not seen in the sky.
Sensationalism and improper terminology.
This linked site keeps saying "meteorite"
when only one frame shows anything to do with a meteorite: a picture of a
little black pebble.
All of the videos should say
"meteor" or, in a stretch, "meteoroid."
When a meteoroid travels through the earth's atmosphere and heats up due to
friction, showing light, leaving a smoky trail in the sky, it is a
meteor. It
remains a meteor so long as it's in the air. Only when it reaches the ground
and is at rest does it become a meteorite.
This is the origin of the term meteorologist, a scientist whose specialty is the
atmosphere and its phenomena, including weather, forecasting and reporting
thereof; and meteorology, the field itself.
