I came across the above article about men's dress at Mass.  I was wondering if any have read it and have an opinion; especially men in forum.

  • "The Mass is infinitely more important than any worldly event – A man should wear his very best clothing for every Mass is of infinite value."

That sums it up. I wear a jacket and a tie for Mass. Sunday best.

  • Thanks for the reply. I agree we should give our best for Christ.  Our dress is a sign of faith.   Unfortunately I don't see many who show that sign as you do... the logical conclusion is alarming.

This is very true, and very sad, that many men and women do not seem to consider it necessary to dress-up for Mass...

If a person was invited to the banquet of a king would he not dress up?  Yet, in the presence of God; few give it much thought...

I think that in the defense of most people, they never think of it though; or do not have the good examples to follow.

So, let us try to be that for them and maybe others will eventually also dress with respect for the presence of God in the Blessed Sacrament!  :-)

  • You all must be attending Novus Ordo "liturgies". Any traditional mass center would not put up with it.

Not quite true, Lighthouse.  I've observed men in plenty of trad chapels  - independent and SSPX - in less than appropriate clothing.
I've always found it disturbing that those trad pastors allow it to continue.

But heck, an older woman who I used to see every week at the local SSPX chapel showed up at +W's Mass / fall conference wearing pants, so you never know what you'll see.

  • Men have no excuse because  dress  clothing is easy to find. It is much more difficult for women to   find  modest clothing.  The internet is probably  the only place women can find clothing like that. Older women  likely don't shop online and  fashion stores are designed for youth.
