Does anybody here know why some people register but never post, even once?
Some of them have pagan usernames, so I got suspecious...
-
I've wondered about that myself. Nor do I trust them. Maybe they were hoping to get e-mail addresses.
-
Or maybe they just want to put people on ignore just because there mean.
-
Or they just use the PM function.
-
The Ignore tab should be taken off. I do not believe
that the bloggers whom are doing the regular
postings are using that feature.
I suspect those that have signed up, and never
post.
You cannot just block somebody, when you need
to know what he is saying in order to respond.
-
I have CathInfo set up to delete all ignores for a given member if that member hasn't logged in for 30 days.
So if someone signs up, ignores a bunch of people, then never shows up again, their ignores will die after 30 days.
And when someone is banned their ignores get deleted immediately.
As the moderator, I can actually see who is ignoring each user. They are users that you see on here.

:good-shot:
Hahaha, and won't they be disappointed! I closed that barn door good and tight (promptly after the horses had bolted, I might add)

I joined Nov 24, 2009. My first post was on May 10, 2010. For six months, I was one of these individuals. Even now, I don't post very often.
I first found this forum from a reference about the issues surrounding Saint Gertrude the Great in Ohio.
While I did not expect to post on the forum much, I joined so that I could more easily follow (using the "Subscribe" function) any individual topic. I've found that this forum (and Angelqueen) are pretty good sources for news concerning Catholic issues and for getting a feel for the attitudes amongst traditional Catholics outside my fairly small sphere.
The people who join using demonic or pagan screen names are a concern, but not posting should not be a concern to the membership.

I'd say this is about 80/20
80% using the ignore button are regular, posting members
20% using the feature visit regularly but post very seldom if at all
-
Personally, I join other forums (and don't post) in order to be able to follow a certain user.
For example, if I think Raoul is a genius and want to read everything he has to say, I'd want to look at his profile and see all of his posts. You can't see profiles without registering.
EDIT: Nevermind, that isn't true here. I guess we're too nice.

to be honest, you are not hidden to me anymore.
that said, some are mean, some have had it with other postsers and for peace of mind and soul, have the annoying people on hide.
it is possibly a tool to shun people as well, those that are a bit-shall we say-off. For instance, prior to his banning, Uriel started racking up ignores as well.....it was his chance to self examine or for us to show him our displeasure. He could either ignore the ignores or deal with them.
Classicom, last I saw, has 10 or 11, yet he continues to post. I do ignore for peace of mind and it is less tempting to respond to people and create more angst and division....again, much more fair the giving "fishies", what FE used to do, which turned into popularity contests and descended into cliques....

I'm new here. I haven't posted much because, well, I'm new here. I'm also really new to traditional Catholicism. I don't have as much knowledge or insight as many, so I'm not certain how to contribute to certain discussions. I do come here daily, though. I pray that as time passes I can become a much more active member.

For the record, I have not ignored anyone, and I don't plan to use the function. Nor have I been ignored by anyone yet, (though I have only posted 19 responses so far.)
I do think the ignore feature is excellent, only in that it is practical for someone to ease the annoyance of glancing over someone's posts they don't want to read.
But! I think it is wrong to display the number of ignores publicly. It always looks negative against a person, and can easily be used purposely to make others look bad.
What if John Doe says a lot of good and true things but the people who are wrong increment his ignore score? That only fosters a suppression of truth. And then the zero ignores tend to make it look better for another, when it is quite possible that he says many wrong things, and the people who know he is wrong don't ignore him, but converse with him.
I vote for hiding the ignore stats, but keeping the ignore button.

please feel free to participate and share, everyone has something to contribute, except the occasional :gandalf: we get, but they do not last long.
welcome!

sounds fair....I would add, most of us here can be reasonable.Try going to FE and posting something about americanism, distributism, women and pants,etc-watch the juvenile name calling and the tongs come out quick.....

Patman,
I don't use the ignore feature either, however last week I wanted to see how it works and put someone at random, on ignore just to see what happened when I came across the notes and how it all worked. I forgot I had that person on ignore for no reason, but I was curious and when I realized it I took the ignore off. I felt kind of bad because I had it on for about a week. I am a curious person and have to see how everything works, have always been that way.
I suppose I might use it if a person was using obscenties but even then I think the moderator would bann them.
-
in the last hour, just picked up an ignore...odd, but my thoughts "oh well then".....
good to be curious, that is why you are not a NO "everything is great' person, Myrna!

Well one thing for sure, I didn't put you on ignore, in fact I have no one on ignore. I can't think of any reason to put anyone on ignore.
-
good to know, not really worreid, but noted it was odd.....you ahve one ignore and not by me....

Anyone with a pagan user name or something obviously against religion or what have you... those people are probably here to laugh at the "backwards" religious people.
Really, I'm kind of shocked that we haven't had more problems with the "other side".
-
If they only want to read and not post, it is my understanding one can do that without registering.
I registered right away, since this forum was recommended to me by a dear friend.

I vote with Patman and Belloc.

This forum aint a democracy you know. :laugh1:
There is a certain forum with about a dozen active members ,who pretty much stopped posting a year ago, yet in the meantime the forum has picked up about 200 members since then. There is obviously nothing going on there and the people that register NEVER post anything. It's frustrating.

Hi Fellows,
I'm new here. I just found the site today, and joined at once.
I did not know where should I have this question answered, so I'm trying on this thread, here's what happened:
I posted my first message, but I could not see it, although it appears as posted. That was on "Introduce yourself".
I posted a second one, and then I could see the message I posted. That one was on "Introduction".
Did I do anything wrong, or is it a Bug from the Forum that the Webmaster should be notified about?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers,
DT.

Doubting Thomas, welcome to these forums.

Hi Again Folks,
Bug or no Bug, my message is visible now. Problem is Resolved.
Cheers,

Hi Again,
Does anybody know what does it mean when you try to use the "messenger" option, and then you get a message that says:
"To use the private message system, you must be an established member."
What do I have to do in order to become an established member?
Cheers,
DT.

Wait 14 days. Matthew installed that to keep people from joining just to spam us.

Ok, now I understand. Thanks.

I had that same question DT when I joined about the messenger feature. Your not alone.
But you can post all you want on all the subjects here.
-
Actually, it's not 14 days -- it's 6 days.
I want spammers to give up and not come back, while not annoying the true members too much.
That number of days -- 6 -- is subject to change in the future, to achieve both of those ends.
