  • Edit: Not really a shocker for anyone who reads this blog regularly. Mr. Gibson is continuing his creative pilgrimage by making something that will have something for everyone, including his detractors. There is as yet no word about how Protestants will feel about a Deuterocanonical book being the subject of his next religious film.

It will do something no religious film we know of has attempted before. It will be a Religious "Western" with Jєωιѕн cowboys as the good guys. A real showdown between good and evil.

  • It should be interesting.

Hopefully it won't involve any "selling out" of the truth to appease those who run Hollywood -- but maybe since it's an Old Testament topic there won't be as much issue with "them".

In fact, "Jєωs are the good guys" in the film -- of course they'll love it!

I think it will be similar to the compromise made when he did the Passion by having the Rabbis speak the actual text "let His blood be upon us and our children", but omitting the text, if he makes any compromises at all.

I expect this film will be as loaded with Catholic typology as the Scripture story is.

  • I wish Mel would do a film on ABL's life or on VCII.

It would be a great service to transmit the true cause of the crisis to a world-wide audience. The Conciliar Church would go apoplectic.

I think that, with the Macchabees film, that is exactly what he is doing.  :scratchchin:

Think about it, the Hellenisation of the Israelites, the cowardice and worldliness of the most eminent citizens, the wickedness and boldness of the pagan Antiochus Epiphanes, the abomination of desolation, the abandonment of the old ways and the ancient manly disciplines of the religion of the Old Testament, the miraculous restoration, etc.  The sect of the Latrocinium and their propagandists will say that it is all a metaphor for religious people (Jєω and Christian alike, of course !) combatting the effects of saecularism (not the saecularists themselves, of course, since "my uncle and my brother are both agnostics, and my aunt is divorced and remarried, and they're all nice, good people...").  But I doubt, having seen the Passion and Apocalypto, that the very troubled Gibson, a genius filmmaker and director, will stoop to such clumsy and facile workmanship when he has such fine material in his hands.

I would like to see this film, especially if he spares none of the details found in the Scriptures.  Violence can be very damaging to the Christian's mind and sentiments, especially the younger ones, but if Catholic men are ever going to be worthy to call themselves the sons of those who fought to defend the Holy Land during the holy pilgrimages to Jerusalem centuries ago, our more mature members need to understand that these sorts of affairs can get pretty bloody and that sometimes, when the enemies of God make it morally impossible to continue attempts at persuasion because their continuation damages the common good, they can only be met with cold steel and an equally steely resolve to courage.

  • I have always been a little surprised that no one has ever made this into a movie before.  I hope it is a good one.  It's one of my favorite parts of the Bible.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

WOW. I did not even know that Mel Gibson was making a Film about Acts.
I take it that you mean the Acts of The Apostles.
    Keep us posted.

P.S. I'm not the person on Fish Eaters who is supporting Mel Gibson.
You thought that I was in one of your posts.
But God Bless that person whoever they are.
    They have done good.
Please could you post a link to that FE thread?
I am really interested to see it.
