Reports are that in this case, the shooter's sister was one of the early casualties.
It's not impossible this is a coincidence, but it would seem rather unusual.
It suggests that the shooter was trying to kill his relative, and the others were collateral or "by the way" casualties.
This report may turn out to be wrong (early reports often are), but speculation on motives should probably take it into account.

Shooter was a satanist, socialist, Trump-hating supporter of Liz Warren.

On social media, the suspect’s biography started to emerge. On his Twitter page, reviewed by Heavy, he described himself as “he/him / anime fan / metalhead / leftist / i’m going to hell and i’m not coming back.” He wrote on Twitter that he would happily vote for Democrat Elizabeth Warren, praised Satan, was upset about the 2016 presidential election results, and added, “I want socialism, and i’ll not wait for the idiots to finally come round to understanding.”

Yet the monster in El Paso was a right-wing nationalist extremist. We have to be objective and not subjective and admit that there's crazies on both sides.

These were planned, and the shooters were not Trump supporters. They obviously had to have been mentally ill and/or CIA MK Ultras.

Connor Betts had praised the actions of an ANTIFA activist who firebombed an ICE facility.

On his Twitter account, Dayton mass shooter Connor Betts praised the actions of a man named Willem Van Spronsen who attempted to firebomb an ICE facility while carrying an AR-15.
On Betts’ purported account, in which he identifies as “he/him / anime fan / metalhead / leftist / i’m going to hell and i’m not coming back“, he also described ICE detention facilities like the one Spronsen attacked as “cσncєnтrαтισn cαмρs.”
Spronsen ultimately didn’t injure anyone in his martyr-style attack on the Tacoma, Washington immigration detention facility. He was shot by police after deploying a crude incendiary device against the building.
Betts, however, has proved far more lethal, carrying out a mass shooting Saturday night in which ten have died thus far. Betts, who was killed by law enforcement during the rampage, even killed his own sister.

Betts appears to have been a Satanist of some sorts, having been photographed wearing anti-religious patches that stated he was “against all gods.”
His Twitter feed reads as a consistent stream of leftist drudge, expressing hatred against conservatives and ICE personnel.

Betts’ specific motive for the Saturday night mass shooting appears unclear. He began opening fire with an AR-15 rifle with a hundred-round drum magazine after being denied entry to an area bar. Betts had been suspended from school after being caught compiling graphic lists of teachers and students he wished to brutally kill.
As of Sunday, law enforcement continues to investigate Betts and a potential motive for the Ohio mass shooting. Big League Politics will continue to monitor the situation.
