What do we expect, very few grasp what marriage means anymore.  

I think the problem is arrogance.  People don't want to feel that other people's lives are more important than their own.  Having a few kids with different partners and moving around is totally accepted.  Casual sɛҳuąƖ relationships is embraced today.

I worry all the time how the America can possibly reverse it's moral decay with regards to the family and still keeps our freedom.

Arrogance may be a rotten fruit, but the cause at least among Catholics is the fact that the have not been taught the truth, and have not been nourished by Our Lord at the true Mass.

Catholics in the better days of the Church, were taught what marriage was by their priests and they believed it. The Conciliar church teaches them nothing and it shows.

Marriage is nothing but a "piece of paper" to the majority for Americans.

What a tragedy that good, long-lived marriages are virtually unknown.  When I tell my allegedly Christian colleagues that my parents will celebrate their 58th anniversary on June 28, they are incapable of comprehension.  One woman retorted, "Can you imagine being stuck with the SAME guy all those years?"

Sadly, yes.

I think one of the biggest reasons for the decline of marriage is feminism. This evil has destroyed the home, family, society, and frankly, the whole world. As women go, so goes society. Men do whatever is necessary to have frequent and convenient access to sex. If women insist on marriage, men marry. Women hold the power of setting societal standards.

Also, the sacrament of HOLY MATRIMONY is not properly honored anymore. In the secular world, divorce is an easy way out of a life -time commitment. When you marry, it is supposed to be UNTIL DEATH do you apart. End of story. You better make it work. Aside sentimentality, the first and foremost purpose of marriage is the upbringing of children, soldiers of Christ, and the propagation of the human race. There is too much focus on "love", or the ideal marriage, which do not exist. Sentimentality that just gives people false expectations, which lead to great disappointments.

Truth is, marriage has lost its spiritual meaning. People do not wish to commit anymore to anything nor anyone. Another symptom of this society we live in, which is dominated by narcissism, individualism, consumerism, materialism, and moral relativism.

Another reason is that the gov't/s promote it.  If paper work shows that you are single/with a child, more benefits.  Single and pregnant, baby is delivered by the state medical.  The elderly play the game too.  Other countries are paying couples not to marry, now how is that?  They can pay up to $2,000 in american dollars.  We have a lot  of immigrants who know how the play the benefit game.

Actually CHIP/medicaid was expanded by Bush to cover higher than poverty level incomes.  Many married families have medicaid/chip for the wife when pregnant and always for the children.
