  • Mark79 has been un-banned.

Out of human frailty, I was put off by Mark79's "methods" (re-posting the same list of grievances against Poche again and again), assumed he was exaggerating, and then when Mark79 started publicly calling me out it was all over. One thing led to another, and in the process I failed to properly look into and deal with actual errors being posted on CathInfo. I was wrong to do that.

    I have corrected my mistake:
    https://www.cathinfo.com/general-discussion/condemnation-of-poche-errors-and-formal-warning/

Most CathInfo rules are summed up in this quote:
    In necessary things, Unity.
    In doubtful things, Liberty.
    In all things, Charity.

CathInfo permits a certain latitude and "benefit of the doubt" regarding ANYTHING touching on the Crisis in the Church, which I believe involves supernatural mysteries (i.e., the mind of God, which no one has been privy to). Since no one has spoken to the Lord directly about this, no one can condemn others or compel the conscience of others towards any particular course of action regarding the Crisis in the Church -- at least not with any finality or authority.

Likewise, no one can compel another to a specific prudential course of action: Who they should marry, what company should they work for, where should they live, what they should do with any extra money -- or what valid Tridentine Mass they should attend.

Last of all, the amount of hope we have in any human being(s) or institution(s) is up to each individual: from human despair ("only God can fix this mess") all the way to naive hope ("he could convert tomorrow!"). Now you could be annoyed by someone with vastly different hope than you, but you can't call them a heretic or sinner on that account. Nor is it an ERROR, strictly speaking. It has nothing to do with doctrine, only wisdom or prudence. Hoping that Hillary Clinton will convert soon might seem naive and stupid for most of us, but if someone wants to be that naive, can we truly say they are in error? Not very realistic, naive or foolish perhaps -- but we can't condemn them as a heretic. Long story short, the Church leaves us WIDE latitude as to how much heroic hope we wish to have.

However, any concrete errors which clearly violate Catholic Dogma are not allowed on CathInfo. "In necessary things, unity."  Likewise anything else which is manifestly false: false quotes, false reports, fake news, false apparitions, fake/inaccurate scripture quotes, slander/lies about an individual, etc. If anything is found on CathInfo which I have reason to believe is not true, it will be deleted and the poster might be banned on the first offense, depending on the contents. Disciplinary action is left up to the prudential judgment of the site moderator. There are no legal loopholes on CathInfo.

If you are aware of ANY such content on CathInfo, there is a small "report to Moderator" link in the lower-right corner of every post. Please use it. You can also email me: matthew at cathinfo dot com.
