  • Nevertheless, I would be happy if something "happened" to these people, because of the good things that would result (less corruption of others, less glorification of evil, ceasing of their scandal to others)

Well, sure, but at the end of the day only God knows whether any particular punishment would have the effect of lessening corruption, or whether God in fact intends that there be less corruption.  Sometimes God allows corruption to continue unchecked.  Only He knows His reasons sometimes.

So ... we should be happy with WHATEVER happens or doesn't happen, because God willed it so.  Sounds like some people were lamenting the fact that some of these people were left unpunished by this.  But if God chooses not to punish, we should be happy with His decision.  In any case, I'm sure not going to stand over anyone pointing my finger and insisting they be punished ... since I'd probably deserve to be cast immediately into hell first if I dared do that, given my own sins.

So, one of my kids, who's working now, destroyed a toy that belonged to his younger brother.  So I demanded that he make restitution and buy him a new one out of the money he earned.  He reluctantly did so ... under duress.  But it turns out that the toy he had to buy as a replacement was a couple dollars more than the original (slightly different model), so he was up in arms trying to get the difference out of his sibling.  I told him to stop.  Then I listed all the stuff he's cost us over the years (damages, etc.) and reminded him that we had not forced him to pay up ... this was well into the hundreds or even thousands of dollars.  I reminded him about the story in the Gospel about the servant who was forgiven a great debt by the Master and then tried to throttle a few pennies out of a fellow servant.  I told him he should be happy to go a little extra to make up for the distress he caused his younger brother.

  • I agree again with Ladislaus (this is beginning to be a habit)  it is what we as Catholics must KNOW as Trusting in Jesus, the Just Judge.   If you meditate on the passion of Christ, and really consider how He took our nature and suffered the pain for each and every one of us, even the evil doers, you will trust that He will give them every opportunity to save their soul (example St. Paul/Saul) even if our human desire wants to see them destroyed right now.  We do not understand and we all wonder why, but in eternity we will understand the why of all the mysteries of life.
In the meantime, we wonder why these evil people are allowed to continue to destroy what is good and society would be much better without them. Bottom line is we can't see the entire picture, therefore, we are left with only TRUST in God.
    Please pray for my soul.

But we can see the entire picture, it's in today's Gospel.  God is leaving the wheat to grow with the chaff and will separate them at the harvest.  He gave us free will and He won't take that back, not even from the pawns of the devil.  This is not His will as some state but He does allow it because He gave us free will!
Life is a test but the rewards for those that pass are fabulous.! ! !

Bryan Suits on his "The Dark Secret Place" radio program just played the audio from a video made by a man who survived the Malibu fire.
    .
He had led a caravan of 4 other cars out of the fire, but they ran into problems, so he had to flee his Jeep, as he urged his friends following him to do likewise. He could not return to help them and hoped they were able to escape like he did.
    .
Later, he went back to where he had left his vehicle. His audio recording is very emotional as he describes the scene he found.
    .
Somehow his Jeep was still intact and he was able to start it up and drive away, but all 4 of the other cars had been burned, with occupants inside.
    .
One of the cars was being driven by his mother. In the video he says she had held up the progress of the 4 cars because she was putting on makeup.

    The video is here:

    .
Not Malibu -- this was in Paradise, northern California. Not Paradise Cove, Malibu.
    .
You can see melted aluminum puddles on the ground, that's what an aluminum engine block looks like after a really hot car fire.
    .
The woman who delayed others to put on her makeup apparently was the mother of this man's friend.
The woman and her son died because she took time to do her makeup instead of leaving the house, apparently.
The son's skeleton is still sitting in the passenger seat but his mother's body is completely burned up, a few bones on the driver's seat.
    .
Someone commented below the video that they're probably not going to leave this up very long.

Speaking of the Camp fire (Paradise, northern CA) the estimated number of people missing was reduced today from 1,000 to 700.
    .
Two more human remains were found today bringing the total of confirmed deaths to 79.
    .
Over 1,000 buildings were destroyed, mostly houses, and the Camp fire is now 68% contained; expecting containment by the end of the month.
    .
In Malibu, residents who had been evacuated are returning to their homes, some to find partial or total loss.
It's going to take several weeks to get the city infrastructure back together.
Most residents of Malibu are on septic tanks, but those on sewer are inconvenienced by some sewers being inoperative.
Several neighborhoods are required to boil water since water pressure dropped during the fire and backflows occurred.
