  • Hi,

In the NT Jesus talks about making God's name known.  From this the JW's have inserted  Jehovah in places where they think God the father is mentioned.

I think that in making God's name know Jesus is talking about what God is and will do for his people.  For example:  I can know a person's name is Joe, but if I do not know Joe personally and say for instance that Joe is a great poet or painter and I just know the name Joe I don't know Joe at all.

So Jesus going around saying the name Jehovah would mean nothing if the hearers didn't know how loving and forgiving the Father is .  So I don't think that the JW"S did a good thing inserting the name Jehovah in the NT..  One needs to KNOW God, that He is all in all, good, loving, forgiving etc Just saying the name Jehovah to the uneducated listener would mean nothing.

Any one have any thoughts about this?

  • "And after he began to be ninety and nine years old, the Lord appeared to him: and said unto him: I am the Almighty God: walk before me, and be perfect. And I will make my covenant between me and thee: and I will multiply thee exceedingly. Abram fell flat on his face.
And God said to him: I am, and my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

    ( Genesis 17:1-4)

"The Lord putteth an end to wars, the Lord is his name."
    ( Judith 16:3)

"Sing ye to God, sing a psalm to his name, make a way for him who ascendeth upon the west: the Lord is his name. Rejoice ye before him: but the wicked shall be troubled at his presence,"
    ( psalm 67:5)

"Thus saith the Lord, who will do, and will form it, and prepare it, the Lord is his name"
    ( Jeremias 33:2)

"Seek him that maketh Arcturus, and Orion, and that turneth darkness into morning, and that changeth day into night: that calleth the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name."
    (Amos 5:8)

"He that buildeth his ascension in heaven, and hath founded his bundle upon the earth: who calleth the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth, the Lord is his name."
    (Amos 9:6)

  • The "JW's" are only Arian heretics, they should be either refuted convincingly, or avoided completely.

They deny that Jesus is God.

When Jesus is speaking, so many times He refers to Himself as the great I AM (see Jn 8:58 for e.g.), exactly how God revealed Himself to Moses in Exodus, which is from where the divine Name YHWH (later transliterated Jehovah) originates. All His hearers clearly understood Jesus declaring Himself to be God, the Apostles worshipped Him, the Jєωs wanted to kill Him for it.

    JW's illogically deny this.

The name Jesus itself means roughly "Jehovah who saves". Read St. Gabriel's words to the Blessed Virgin (Mat 1:21) carefully and you will see already implicit there the declaration of the divinity of the Savior, because the Angel says the Child shall be called such because He will save His people from their sins. Already, Isaiah had foretold the Child would be Emmanuel, that is, God with us.

    The JW heretics deny this.

In Mat 28:19 you will see Jesus say "In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost". As St. Augustine points out, this proves God is a Trinity, for Jesus did not say names, but Name, showing the Three are One. This argument always put the Arian heretics to flight, and Arianism disappeared for over a thousand years.

It only returned because of Protestantism and its impious principle of private interpretation.
"Never will anyone who says his Rosary every day become a formal heretic ... This is a statement I would sign in my blood." St. Montfort, Secret of the Rosary. I support the FSSP, the SSPX and other priests who work for the restoration of doctrinal orthodoxy and liturgical orthopraxis in the Church. I accept Vatican II if interpreted in the light of Tradition and canonisations as an infallible declaration that a person is in Heaven. Sedevacantism is schismatic and Ecclesiavacantism is heretical.

  • There isn't anything anyone can say to them.  They listen with a hard heart.  Only the Holy Spirit can give them a new heart and ears to hear the truth.

It is not easy to refute them because they have their own bible and their own twisted interpretation and they just close their ears.
