  • I received a question along the lines of, "What is proper and acceptable behavior if I want to participate on CathInfo?"

Kind of a broad question, but here goes:

Most members are more or less equals when it comes down to it.
Indeed there is usually some difference in age, intelligence, education, income, etc. between any two given members, but we're all still members of a democratic society when it comes down to it. We should be used to talking with others in public. Obviously it's encouraged to have more respect and deference for the learned, the aged, etc.

It's also very unbecoming for a woman to deport herself as a pompous know-it-all, even in the face of men who are much better educated. A male pompous know-it-all saying the exact same things would actually be slightly less repulsive. Just for starters, the hypothetical male know-it-all probably wouldn't be *quite* as stubborn or abrasive, since he wouldn't be trying to over-compensate. (See related topic: female bosses are almost always worse than male bosses)

In general, I would say just have some level of respect for your fellow Catholics, and you'll be fine. That doesn't preclude emotion -- the topics discussed here are quite central to the Faith which is central to many of our identities.
We're not discussing "Pepsi vs. Coke" or "Apple vs. Microsoft" but things of much greater import. So emotion is understandable.

As long as you're not cursing people to Hell or something, or acting like the Pope who can excommunicate, or God who can condemn to hell, and remember that all here are Catholics trying their best for the most part, and un-condemned souls still living in this Time of Mercy (another name for the short life we're each given), then you'll be fine.

Age- Just young enough to have all the Soc. Sec. I earned stolen by the govt. at the time it's due me.
Intelligence- IQ in 1969 was 132,  if public school records are to be believed. It's probably lower than that now-- unless the Flynn effect has risen by an exponent since the Novus Ordo was illegitimately promulgated.
Education- B.S., M.S. x2, but not Piled high & Deep.  (Spread thin and wide?)
Income- Low with small prospect of increase.

Do I qualify for CI if I suppress my facetiousness factor?  Refer to LoT's comments about New Yorkers!
     :roll-laugh1:Sorry, I can't help it!!!!!

  • I can't seem to locate the topic about female bosses that precipitated this thread.

There's not a recent thread about it, though the topic has come up before.

Basically, women can be more cruel as soldiers, police officers, bosses, etc. because they're coming "from behind" as it were, and have something to constantly prove, every day: namely, that they're as tough as any man.

Men don't have this problem. They are (to varying degrees) secure in their manhood. Women are (surprise, surprise) not so content. They feel a constant need to prove they belong in a man's world, so they strive to be more "hard", more cruel, and more tough than any of the men. The result? A monster in the order of nature.

Any act of mercy, any act of compassion, any act of apparent "weakness" might precipitate the charge that, "You're too soft! How typical of a woman. Hey, maybe you should go back to the kitchen where you belong." so they can't afford to give anyone the chance. So they're never merciful or show any softness or "weakness" -- problem solved!

    The results?

Rather than the beautiful, nurturing creature God created, you have something more cruel than a man on one of his bad days. What a wreck; the fruits of Feminism.

And then there's the additional issue that many Feminist women have a huge chip on their shoulders against men and "the patriarchy". So they're likely to be cruel to men under their charge for that reason as well. Men, on the other hand, won't have such a motivation to be thus cruel to men OR women.

I would agree with that to a certain extent, but I have also seen female bosses who were not this way at all.  Maybe it also depends on the line of work.

It's not every female boss; it's just a trend. Let's put it this way: you see it many times more often than you see it among men. Maybe this is a more accurate statement:

A disproportionate number of "bosses from hell" are female. That is to say, a larger % than you would expect, given the total number of male and female bosses.

Anyhow, the exception(s) proves the rule; it doesn't disprove it.

I'm not sure I can speak to a "rule".  Is it possible this is true for most people's experiences?  Sure.  It just doesn't fit my experience though.  I have never had a female boss "from hell".

  • I worked for the National Park Service for five straight summers and had a string of female supervisors.

Actually, they were nice as hell. Does that count?   :confused1:

A disproportionate number of "bosses from hell" are female.

I've had a total of ten bosses in 36 years of employment, half male, half female.  Of the five males, two were good, three bad.  Of the females, three good, two bad.  Two of the bad male bosses failed in maintaining personal moral standards for his profession.  It should be noted that both were fired when sɛҳuąƖ sin with an outside consenting adult became publicly known.  One failed for lack of professional competence.  Of the two bad female bosses, both were "bosses from hell" as well as incompetent!  One spread vicious gossip about employees she didn't like and either got them fired or caused them to quit.  The other not only mistreated her inferiors by means of an evil tongue, but also stole large sums of money and engaged in forgery.
Women are naturally more pious and virtuous than men, so it makes sense that when women turn to evil, they become worse than men.

  • One important subset of female-bosses-from-hell are those afflicted by the Queen Bee Syndrome:  http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424127887323884304578328271526080496

Even PC types accept this diagnosis.

My sister was the victim of one of these.  She reported my sister for shirking -- while my sister was home with acute pneumonia.

     :dancing-banana:
Why the down thumb?  I've stated my factual life experience.  The immoral male bosses did not abuse their employees.  They were fired when they grew lax and outed themselves.  The female bosses abused their underlings, myself included.  The most egregious of these started a rumor that I had a prison record.  You don't like the facts, or you don't believe me?
:scratchchin:Matthew, ever consider removing the down thumb option?  Just my .02¢!
