  •      Hi, so I'm new here, and have decided to take the plunge. :) I was wondering what your favorite part(s) in Lord of the Rings movies are?? I have some friends who have really wacky favorite parts... like when Gollum is doing his famous "fishy dance" in the falls... *shudder* (Yeah, yeah, I know there are probably some of you who probably don't like L.o.t.R.'s but, hey...)
So, mine are: in the Two Towers when Merry and Pippin are lounging around Isngard, after it's been flooded, and are talking about The Green Dragon and "a hard days work" and then Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli, and Leoglas show up and they tease the poor Dwarf with their south farthing tabacco!!!
When Eowyn gives Aragorn the soup she made and she discovers he's...wait for it...wait for it: 87! And I know that alot of people like when Legolas skate boards down the stairs at Helms Deep but...the part when the Elves (I call them the marines of Middle Earth) arrive tops that! When Gondor calls for aid... Paths of the Dead... toast in the Shire... Gosh, I could go on and on, but my sister just asked me if this is going to be a novel or what, thus bringing me back to reality.

Oh, and just to let you  know, I don't live and breathe, L.o.t.R's!! ...Okay...maybe sometimes... I don't have any posters of them on my wall... (rip riiiiiip) But it is doubly awesome when you think about all the simularities between L.o.t.r.'s and our Faith!!!!

  • I was disappointed that The Lord of the Rings movies excluded Tom Bombadil and the scourging of the shire.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • Welcome Okenshield!!!

My favorite part is in Two Towers when Gollum catches those rabbits and Sam wants to cook them up into a stew.  Sam says he wishes he had some taters.  Gollum asks, "What's taters, precious?".  Sam replies, "Potatoes, eat em, fry em, put them in a stew.  Sam starts talking about fish and chips.  Gollum disgusted says, "Yuck, you keep your fish and chips we like them fresh and wriggling!"  And then any part with Aragorn is good!

  • The only thing I know about Lord of the Rings movies is that they were filmed in New Zealand, and that there were these magic "elvin" cloaks (sorry, I don't know what exactly this is) made from the wool of the very rare and beautiful Gotland sheep.

Google Gotlands if you never have before.  They are stunning little sheep- the only longwool sheep breed in the Nordic Short-tailed sheep family!

Just a bit of trivia (and as a friend of mine said, trust you to know more about the fleeces than the storyline!).
The good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep.  But the hireling, and he that is not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and flieth, and the wolf catcheth, and scattereth the sheep.  A

I agree with you on the second one, but not the first.  I am afraid I didn't miss Tom Bombadil at all.

  • My favorite part out of all of the movies is when the Dwarves sing the Misty Mountain Cold song.  Here's a sample of it.

Such pure, deep and low tones. I love deep singing voices.

Even though Gollum is a wretch, I can't help but pity him, and even have a certain fondness for him. He's so funny sometimes. One of my favorite parts is when he and Bilbo have have the riddle game. In this scene, his endeering qualities shine through.

The rabbit sleigh was so exciting! I really liked the part where Radagast was being chased by those scary looking canine things.

  • My favorite scenes would have to be the Rohirrim's sally from the Hornburg...

Their charge against the besieging Orc army...

and the charge against the Mumakil of Harad.

The film-makers totally ruined the Battle of the Pelennor Fields in the movie by ending it with the Deadmen of Dunharrow pouring out into the field like a tsunami, magically killing the enemy on contact.

They should have kept true to the book and had the allies led by Aragorn flank them from the river.

  • Oh... The Hobbit was really good, too!! Yeah, I was sorta dissipointed about Arwen's brothers not being in the movies... Guess the producers thought they were paying enough money hiring all those orcs!!  :scratchchin:

  • Welcome Thorin, King under the Mountain  :gandalf:

As a purist, I have no liking for the LOTR movies or the recent Hobbit one. The books I know too well for to see them tampered with so. :-)

Tom Bombadil has his place in LOTR. Unfortunately this section is left out in the superior to the movie BBC radio dramatization. Thankfully there is an audio version of Bombadil so I can maintain integrity when I listen to this great story.

So how many of you dwarves and hobbits out there have a churchwarden pipe?

  • Actually, I have churchwarden pipes lining the walls of my Great Hall! As for the One Ring... welllll... I'm working on it, but Bilbo is being very mysterious as to where he is hiding it. Any ideas?   :scratchchin:
