  • Looking for a Haydock, but saw on Amazon they're 125-200+ bucks (and up!)

I'm not interested in 'antiquarian' books, I just want the text (not electronic/kindle versions)

Is any publisher currently printing these? I would think this is in the public domain so this should be much much cheaper to obtain.

    Anyone?

If by 'antiquarian' you mean 'facsimile', then I'm afraid you're out of luck. You could always just print off the version found here using your computer printer, but I don't know if you'd save any money that way or not.

You can buy it directly from the publisher, Catholic Treasures, where it's currently on sale for $105 (regular price $125). It was on sale a few months ago from Loreto Publications for $100, but that sale appears to be over now. Certainly, you won't find a complete new copy for less than $100 anywhere.

  • There is no non-fascimile Haydock in print sold on Amazon.

However, here is a used copy of the Douay Rheims with Haydock Commentary New Testament - it's exactly the same as the $125 version, just without the Old Testament.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0962099430/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0962099430&linkCode=as2&tag=httpwwwchanco-20

It's going for $20.00 used, with the next cheapest being $29.99 (the more expensive one qualifies for free shipping though, the $20.00 book, in addition to having some strange descriptions of its quality, also would add an extra $3.99 for shipping).

There seems to be a full Old-New Testament Haydock going for $95 used:

    Remember to buy through CathInfo!

...and printing out long PDF scans of books is never a good option when there is a print version (even if it is reprinted by a secular publisher and has a drab and embarassing cover). Usually, printing out a PDF that is 300+ pages would cost the same as to buy the same book off of Amazon. Just about any book that is on GoogleBooks or Archive can be found reprinted.

  • Yikes.

I/we should find a top quality digital copy and set up a POD via Amazon (they have those where the 'book' is actually a 'print on demand'

It should be a bit cheaper than 125, albeit more expensive than a print run of thousands of copies due to the 'convenience' of POD (print on demand)

  • Yeah, you won't normally find a Haydock for less than a hundred, and if you find it right at a hundred you'll be getting a deal.

If it's not a pressing issue and you have something satisfactory to work with in the meantime (the entire Haydock is online here: http://haydock1859.tripod.com/index.html ) I would recommend checking ebay off an on.  Every once in a while you can get a really good deal on there with religious books.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).
