You'll find lots of articles on the internet in which there's speculation, often from Jєωιѕн writers, about Lincoln possibly having been a crypto-Jew, or not having viewed himself as Jєωιѕн but being of descent from Jews who remained in England after the Expulsion of 1290.

He is a strange looking "white man." It wouldn't shock me if he had Jews among his ancestors.

For better or worse, Ladislaus, the claim that Lincoln was ever a Catholic amounts to hearsay; that is, it is not substantiated by formal docuмentation of any sort. What is more, Lincoln himself asserted that he was never baptized, and Mary Todd Lincoln vehemently seconded that assertion to the end of her own life.

You say the above, Claudel, on that other thread you linked to.  But Incredulous did have a few references cited.  Which is about as much as would be available since the fix was in to cover Lincoln's Catholicism.  He was, indeed, born and brought up in early youth in the "Holy Land"-Catholic section of central KY, before moving out of state when still young.  Big deal that he and his wife denied his baptism, etc.  It worked politically.  Besides, that, perhaps, that is all Mary Todd knew of him - as much as he exactly was pleased to tell her, or maybe they both agreed to put some kind of space between him and Christianity.  Why is it you are so against Lincoln being Catholic?  Or is there something else to this?

It will be good if you post this in the Library section of CI. Others want to use this as reference.
Not even all the years I attended pre-Vatican II Catholic School I never once heard nor in any
our study books that Abraham Lincoln was ever a Catholic.

According to the link:

Father St. Cyr's statement to Archbishop Ireland is that Lincoln's father and step-mother were Catholic, but that Abraham had never been.

"Abraham was not a Catholic; he had never been one, and he never led me to believe that he would become one."

Father St. Cyr said that Abraham's father and step-mother were "not well-instructed in the faith" and speculated that Abraham's father was newly Catholic due to the influence of his new wife.

Leave it to Incredulous, one of this site's thickest and least credible members, to revive a rumor that was decisively dismissed and debunked fewer than sixty days ago on pages 3 and 4 of this thread. If anyone reading the present thread actually prefers facts to fantasies, let him read or reread the linked pages.

There is no credible evidence that Lincoln was ever a Catholic, was ever baptized, or ever held the Catholic faith in anything but contempt. Admire him or loathe him as you will, but have the wits and maturity to realize that hearsay isn't magically transformed into gospel truth simply because the tag "bishop" or "anonymous priest" gets tacked onto some idle gossip's unsupported claims.
Claudel,

Thank you for your comments.

It is Lent and I will try to be charitable.

You lack discernment.

You should work on this fault during this Lent.  It may be your last.

Pray to the Holy Ghost for the Seven Gifts, especially that of Wisdom.

Why is it you are so against Lincoln being Catholic? Or is there something else to this?

Your questions would produce a better effect were they accompanied by and adorned with the spooky music from an old Vincent Price horror flick or something equally Hollywoodish.

In fact, yes, there is something to what you term "this": I have a deep-seated prejudice against the sort of baseless speculation beloved of people who are challenged in the rationality department. You might just as soon have asked me "Why is it you are so against the moon's being made of green cheese? Is there something else, something sinister, that you are trying to conceal?"

My counter question to you is this: "Why do you choose to credit unsourced and unverified hearsay in preference to docuмented and well-sourced testimony to the contrary?" Or put otherwise, "What's your beef with evidence?"
