  • Well, I think sports can either be used or abused. Obviously, they were abused in the ancient Roman Empire. They have also become something monstrous in our time. Back in the day, the sports players used to actually play for love of the game and were really good, considering they did not have the standardized equipment and rules there are now. It depends also on the kind of sport. I think a sport like rugby can be pretty aggressive as opposed to golf. Baseball can be dangerous insofar as if a player gets in the way of a ball or gets in a fight.

Some who play sports too can to some degree make it like their god, taking away attention from our Lord Himself, which is against the first commandment. Also, I have gathered that a lack of education can be associated with playing in school sports depending on the situation, of course. I mean some athletes can be intelligent. Others not so much. It seems from a movie I watched recently that has the famous line "win one for the Gipper" and starred Ronald Reagan, the famous college football coach of Notre Dame named Knute Rockne (who was a Catholic convert) seemed to emphasize education and sure did not want dummies for football players.
"Non nobis, Domine, non nobis; sed nomini tuo da gloriam..." (Ps. 113:9)
