THE SILENCE OF THE BISHOPS -- PRIEST SCORES CHURCH'S ROLE IN ARGENTINA'S
    DIRTY WARS

EDITOR'S NOTE: As Argentina grapples with the confessions of ex-military
members about their involvement in its dirty wars, revelations by a
Catholic priest are focusing new attention on the Church's role. PNS
correspondent Uki Goni is a freelance journalist based in Buenos Aires.

BY UKI GONI, PACIFIC NEWS SERVICE

BUENOS AIRES -- The Vatican Embassy here kept a secret list of thousands
of people who "disappeared" during Argentina's dirty wars of the late
1970s which it failed to make public at the time and may have since
destroyed, according to Church sources. The revelations have stirred
heated debate about the Church's role in the kidnap, torture and murder
of some 15,000 people even as the nation grapples with the confessions of
ex-military members about their involvement in the killings.

Italian Cardinal Pio Laghi, who was Papal Pro-Nuncio in Buenos Aires
during the military dictatorship and later served as Pro-Nuncio in the
United States, confirmed last week that he knew of some 6,000 cases of
    people who "disappeared."

Now based in Rome, the Cardinal made his admission in an interview with
an Argentinean magazine following claims by Father Federico Richards, a
Catholic priest at the Church of the Holy Cross, that Pio Laghi kept one
list at his office while a second was kept at the office of the Military
Vicarate. Richards, a 73-year-old third generation Argentinian of Irish
descent who speaks English with a thick Irish brogue, wants the church to
explain why it never made the lists public and what has happened to them.

In the 1970s Father Richards was the editor of "The Southern Cross," an
English-language newspaper serving the 500,000-member Irish community in
Argentina. The paper published reports of the "disappearances" as they
happened while the local Spanish-language press in Argentina maintained
    total silence.

As a member of the Passionists Order, Father Richards says he had pledged
to keep alive the memory of Christ's suffering. Outside his church a sign
reads: "Solidarity with the crucified of today."

Father Richards clearly recalls the two occasions when he consulted the
"lists" of the Pope's ambassador and of the Argentine Catholic Church. "A
niece of mine, Gloria Keogh, was kidnapped on the night of June 15, 1978,
in her apartment and disappeared. She was 21 years old and a writer who a
few days before had published her first book of short stories. I went
with her father to seek the help of the office of Papal Nuncio Pio Laghi."

Richards discovered a macabre system at the Vatican Embassy by which
Argentina's military rulers constantly updated a list of the dead and
missing kept by Pio Laghi. "The Nuncio's secretary was an Irish priest,
Kevin Mullen. He told us that the Vatican Embassy used to periodically
send a list up to the Ministry of the Interior of people whom they knew
had disappeared, requesting news or information about them." Mullen told
Father Richards that according to the wording of the replies, Pio Laghi's
office knew who was dead or alive.

Pio Lagahi claims his silence about the list enabled him to save the
lives of several influential Argentines. But even the relatives of some
of those he tried to save now condemn him for withholding information
that could have prevented the disappearance of thousands of others.

Richards discovered a second list of 2,100 "disappeareds" kept by
Argentine Bishop Adolfo Tortolo, Argentina's Vicar of the Armed Forces.
"Bishop Tortolo, who always had an excuse for everything the military
did, passed us to his secretary, Monsignor Grasselli, who showed us
stacks of letters on his desk from people asking for information about
their missing relatives. Grasselli's list included some 2,100 people,
some with a cross by their names meaning that they had been confirmed
    dead."

Father Richards notes that neither the Papal Nuncio's office nor the
Military Vicarate could inform him of the fate of his niece, who remains
    missing to this day.

In an editorial written at the time entitled "The Silence of the
Bishops," Father Richards condemned the hierarchy of the Argentine
Catholic Church for not speaking out against the excesses of the military
government. While the editorial prompted an enraged rebuke from
Argentina's Cardinal-Primate, the U.S. prelate who headed Richards' order
at the time congratulated him for his bravery. Richards and members of
another Irish parish active in human rights, St. Patrick's, credit their
ties to the Irish orders with having prevented Argentina's hardline
    bishops from silencing them.

In 1976, three Pallatine priests and two seminarians were shot to death
by military security forces at Saint Patrick's. The following year 12
founding members of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo (the group representing
the thousands of mothers of the "disappeared") and a French nun who
worked alongside them were kidnapped in the front yard of the Church of
the Holy Cross, a kidnapping which was witnessed by Father Richards. Both
these attacks remain unresolved by Argentina's courts.

Role of Vatican in Argentina's Dirty War
    By Uki Gonhi <uki@well.com>. 1995
In the last few days the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo have demanded that the Italian government prosecute Papl envoy Pio Laghi for his role on the dirty war in Argentina. Here is an article, written by journalist Uki Gonhi on the matter, in 1995 that brings some light into the matters.

The Vatican Embassy in Argentina kept a secret list of thousands of people who disappeared during Argentina's Dirty War of the late 1970s which it failed to make public at the time and which may have since been destroyed, according to recent revelations regarding the Catholic Church's poor human rights record in this country. Italian Cardinal Pio Laghi, who was Papal Pro-Nuncio in Buenos Aires during the time of the military dictatorship - and who later served as John Paul II's Pro-Nuncio in the United States - has openly admitted to the Argentine press that he had knowledge of some 6,000 cases of people who "disappeared."

After leaving Argentina, Pio Laghi became the Pope's representative in Washington D.C. for the ten years leading up to 1990. Until 1984 he was the Vatican's Apostolic Delegate in Washington. After former President Ronald Reagan established diplomatic relations with Rome that same year Pio Laghi stayed on in the U.S. as the first Apostolic Pro-Nuncio. He is now a Cardinal in Rome.

Pio Laghi's admission - in an interview published by Gente magazine in Argentina - came only after press reports in early 1995 that his own office and the Catholic Church in Argentina kept secret lists of part of the 30,000 people who are believed to have died at the hands of the dictatorship of General Jorge Rafael Videla.

Details of the Church's grizzly lists were provided by one of its own members, Father Federico "Fred" Richards, a Catholic priest of Irish descent at the Church of the Holy Cross in Buenos Aires, in an interview on 13 April 1995.

"I know of two lists kept by the Church. One was at the office of Pro-Nuncio Pio Laghi and the second at the office of the Military Vicariate. What happened to these lists? Did they burn them? Did they throw them away? Why does the Church hierarchy not bring forth the lists these dignitaries had?" asked Father Richards, who despite being a third-generation Argentine and 73 years of age still speaks fluent English with a thick Irish brogue.

Although Pio Laghi claimed that his silence enabled him to save some few lives, this help was limited only to the cases of individuals from influential families who had access to him. But some of those same influential few condemn Pio Laghi for withholding information which could have prevented the "disappearance" of thousands of other victims.

Father Richards said that Pio Laghi and Argentina's bishops received their information directly from the military repressors themselves.

During the 1970s Father Richards was editor of The Southern Cross, the newspaper of the Irish community in Argentina, a brave weekly written in English which published reports of the "disappearances" as they happened while the local Spanish-language press maintained a deadly silence. The 120-year-old newspaper is still published today for the community of Irish descendants in Argentina.

Father Richards clearly recalled the two occasions when he consulted the "lists" of the Pope's Ambassador and of the Argentine Catholic Church: "A niece of mine, Gloria Keogh, was kidnapped on the night of June 15, 1978, from her apartment in the neighborhood of Belgrano in Buenos Aires, and she 'disappeared.' She was 21 years old and a writer who a few days before had published her first book of short stories. I went with her father, who was my first cousin, to seek the help of the Vatican Embassy."

Father Richards said he discovered a macabre system in place at the Vatican Embassy through which Argentina's military rulers constantly updated information regarding the dead and missing: "The Nuncio's secretary was an Irish priest, Kevin Mullen. He told us that the Vatican Embassy used to periodically, every ten or fifteen days, send a list up to the Ministry of the Interior of people it knew had disappeared, requesting news or information." Mullen told Father Richards that according to the wording of the reply Pio Laghi's office knew who was dead and who alive.

Other relatives of missing people have stated that Pio Laghi kept precise information on the fate of the "disappeared" but Father Richards was the first clergyman to go on record confirming the existence of these lists.

The failure of the Catholic Church to take decisive action to end the thousands of disappearances in the 1970s remains a thorny issue in a nation tormented by its failure to come to terms with a nightmarish past.

Father Richards said he discovered a second secret list of 2,100 missing people kept by Argentine Bishop Adolfo Tortolo, Argentina's Vicar of the Armed Forces: "From the Pro-Nuncio's office we went to the office of the Military Vicariate. At the time the Vicar-General was Bishop Tortolo, who always had an excuse for everything the military did. He was behind them with that strange maneuvering or politics that the majority of the bishops had. We passed into the office of his secretary, Monsignor Grasselli, who pointed to the stack of letters he was receiving from all over the country from people asking for help and information about their missing relatives."

Monsignor Grasselli kept a list for the Army Vicariate, Father Richard recalled. "It was a file of some 2,100 missing people. Beside the names on some of these files there was a cross, meaning that that person had been confirmed dead. Grasselli told me the case of a young boy who was serving the military draft and who planned to marry when he finished. But he disappeared while still a soldier in the Army. His sweetheart came desperately seeking information from the Military Vicar. Grasselli took all the data he could and after about ten days he called her with good news. The boy had been located and was being held in the city of La Plata. But five days afterwards he received another call from La Plata, and Grasselli had to call the girl and tell her that her future husband was confirmed dead." The priest noted that neither the Vatican Embassy nor the Military Vicariate could inform him of the fate of his niece, who still remains missing.

Father Richards belongs to the Passionist Order, founded in 1720. Its members are pledged to keep alive the memory of Christ's suffering on the cross. The first Passionists arrived in Argentina from Ireland 115 years ago, and there currently are about 30 priests from the Order locally. A large sign inside the Church of the Holy Cross in Buenos Aires pledges "solidarity with the crucified of today."

A U.S. prelate, Monsignor Theodore Folley, was the General of the Order during the years of the Argentine military dictatorship. Monsignor Folley, on a visit to Buenos Aires at that time, received a letter from Argentina's Cardinal-Primate Antonio Caggiano who was enraged by an editorial Father Richards had written titled The Silence of the Bishops in The Southern Cross. It condemned the hierarchy of the Argentine Catholic Church for not speaking out against the excesses of the military government. Folley ignored the pressure from the Cardinal and praised Father Richards for his brave work.

More recently, he received personal congratulations for his courage from Irish President Mary Robinson, who met Father Richards during an official visit she made to Buenos Aires in March this year.

Due to action on the human rights front, the two Irish parishes of Saint Patrick's and of the Holy Cross in Buenos Aires were faced with constant threats from the military. Since both churches represent Irish orders and are run by Irish and Irish-Argentine priests, Argentina's hard-line bishops were unable to silence them.

In 1976, three Pallatine priests and two seminarians were shot to death by military security forces at Saint Patrick's. The following year, two founding members of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo (the group representing the thousands of mothers of the "disappeared") and a French nun who worked alongside them were kidnapped at the Church of the Holy Cross, along with four other people, a kidnapping which was witnessed by Father Richards. Both these crimes remain unpunished by Argentina's courts to this day.

  • What all of the above is included in and points toward the fulfillment thereof is this:

    1) WWIII willl not precede the mass persecution of Christians and all who will not bow the knee to the Antichrist.

    2) Mass roundups of the above "dissidents" will take place first. We will be executed and those who don't resist will be herded into "reorientation camps" to be marked with the mark of the beast.

    3) Those who have escaped the above will be in hiding.

    4) WWIII will take place when the pagans allied with the Jєω who is the Antichrist revolt against the Antichrist. That revolt is not a holy one but just the confusion that comes upon the enemies of God.

    5) At the end of all of that, then will the Lord Jesus Christ return from heaven with all of His elect angels and destroy all of His enemies and resurrect all men and judge the quick and the dead and bring His saints into the kingdom of heaven literally and physically. No, it will not be an Old Testament kingdom. It will be the eternally recreated creation of God with NO stain and NO sin in it. All of the damned of angels and men will be consigned to the lake of fire in the bottom of hell forever.

  • Machine gunning was how the death squads run by Zionist Jєωs and SS (they worked together) in WWII put people to death who resisted them.

    It is just starting.

Warning: graphic footage of people being gunned down on the streets by CIA death squads.

Watch it until the end - you will not believe what John Pilger gets this guy (a CIA employee?) to admit on video.

"Get used to it world - we're not going to put up with nonsense."

The man is delusional - a bloodthirsty psychopath.

If this is the type of person who works at the CIA, God help us.

"I think you can consider what happened on Nov. 4 as a liberation from that horrendous original sin which for so many years stained the image and nature of the United States: and that is slavery," Vatican Radio quoted him as saying.

It's amazing how these people trash the faith with impunity. Original sin is now a political term? What about Ratzinger's ecology of the soul? Can you imagine that traditionalists still think the SSPX is an act of betrayal against the "Chair of Peter".  If these so called traditionalists keep trashing any attempt to retain the Christian faith, then they should be informed that worshiping the "Chair of Peter" is a first commandment offense.

  • Thank you Classiccom for the clarity.

When we look at Papal primacy and history and, in particular, the Church Fathers, a number of things become clear. The Fathers would not accept heresy, even when Rome tried to propound it. Christ and the faith He taught us and died for us so we would have THAT saving faith was and is always of the first and overriding importance. St. Ignatius of Antioch bishop of Antioch, a see of Peter, one of the very early martyrs, would not even acknowledge the Roman bishop who had fallen into error. St. Irenaeus bishop of Lyons, France and martyr remonstrated with his personal friend the bishop of Rome who had fallen into Gnosticism and converted him back to the faith. St. Hippolytus and a number of bishops of the Church rejected two bishops of Rome who decided they could themselves forgive sin (rather than Christ alone forgiving sin and presbyters and bishops pronouncing the forgiveness by Christ). Papal primacy does not start until Nicaea I in a formal canonical sense. Pope St. Gregory the Great called upon all the bishops of the Church to reject any bishop who would set himself up as universal bishop with that jurisdiction. St. Gregory was a defender of Papal primacy as well and still acknowledged the bishops of Antioch and Alexandria as holders of chairs of Peter as well as himself. Here is what the Church in Council had decided: there were, due to long acknowledged tradition (meaning a couple of centuries in the early fourth century), certain chairs of bishops to be given local suzerainty over the other bishops in their immediate areas. All were to acknowledge the chair of Peter in Rome (and the far Eastern bishops who had St. Peter's witness and establishing of bishops there by his personal authority and an unbroken line of succession from St. Peter but who had been separated by distance and borders of warring empires etc, when they had a chance, did agree). But the acknowledgement was this: the bishop of Rome (the Pope of Rome) was to be acknowledged first in proclaiming (not altering) the apostolic faith given once for all to the apostles by Christ. And this had canonical authority beginning with Pentecost and not before. The faith that had been proclaimed, that is (Christ Himself, told them to wait until Pentecost and the Holy Spirit Who would guide them into all truth - Christ Himself has all truth, but the apostles and we, need the gift of the Holy Spirit. the Holy Spirit is always one with God the Father and the Son the Lord Jesus Christ). This wasn't formalized until Nicaea I. At no time was it ever understood that simply because someone was called bishop of Rome - the Pope, that he could alter the faith. Furthermore doctrine could not be declared without approval by Councils. As late as Pope St. Pius X his encyclicals depend upon the Fathers and Councils of the Church for doctrine. He approaches them quite humbly on his own part. This isn't to be taken lightly. It is one of the major Freemasonic induced sins of VII to think that man can ever tell God what to do. Men can try it, but they won't like the eternal answer that Christ will give them for doing so. Pope St. Gregory the Great, in order to exegete this point, quotes Our Lord Jesus Christ thusly:

    Mt:7:22:
22  Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name?
23  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.(DRV)

It makes me think of the Arch-heretic and betrayer of Christ, Antipope JPII. He trashed every doctrine there ever was and fawned upon the adoring crowds who practically proclaimed him a god.

See this link for Papal primacy explained and how doctrine can't be changed:

Pius XI in Mortalium Animus: against Ecuмenism which is the eternal death of soul and body in hell

    http://pius-xi-in-mortalium-animus-agai.blogspot.com/

It is one of the major tools of the apostates that they say one has to have the approval of the "Pope" to do anything. VII Antipopes have and do consistently call upon false gods as if they were the True God. The VII Antipopes are therefore not Christian nor Catholic nor may we have anything to do with them. These are the commands of God. They cannot be gainsaid by men.

Star of David flying over Moscow again

    LEV GORODETSKY
    Jєωιѕн Telegraphic Agency

MOSCOW -- The symbolism was evident.

Last week, a group of Jєωιѕн children released a flock of doves at a ceremony last week marking the restoration of a dome and gilded Star of David on the capital's main ѕуηαgσgυє.

The new addition to the Moscow skyline came at a time when relations between Moscow's Jєωιѕн community and the Russian authorities are marked by a relative peace.

Indeed, at the May 16 ceremony, Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov and one of Russia's two chief rabbis, Adolph Shayevich, together laid a cornerstone for a new Jєωιѕн community center.

When Luzhkov was approached about the idea of restoring the dome, he reacted enthusiastically, said Pinchas Goldschmidt, Moscow's chief rabbi.

Luzhkov helped the ѕуηαgσgυє cut through the red tape for building permits needed in downtown Moscow and even suggested funding sources.

Luzhkov is known for his friendly relations with the Moscow Jєωιѕн community. A few years ago, he helped Lubavitch Jєωs restore the Marina Roscha ѕуηαgσgυє, which burned down in 1994.

The dome and star graced the Choral ѕуηαgσgυє for a short time in the early 1890s, when Czar Alexander III bent to the will of the Russian Orthodox Church and ordered them taken down.

This decree started a period of persecution for the Moscow Jєωιѕн community. Thousands of Jєωs were evicted from the city between 1892 and 1897, and the Jєωιѕн population of Moscow dwindled from 26,000 to 5,000.

The Choral ѕуηαgσgυє was closed down. It was re-opened in 1906, but for the past century it has had only a plain roof.

According to legend, the church's opposition to the dome in the 1890s began after the then-mayor of Moscow saw the dome, thought it was an Orthodox church and crossed himself.

When Luzhkov told the story to Israeli President Moshe Katsav, who visited the Choral ѕуηαgσgυє last January, it turned out that Katsav already knew it.

Both laughed, apparently realizing that Luzhkov told the story to juxtapose his actions with those of his 19th-century predecessor.

In an interview, Goldschmidt emphasized that the restoration of the dome was a symbol of reconciliation not only with the Russian authorities but also with the Russian Orthodox Church.

The dedication "was a historically and politically important event. The dome was originally taken off because of the pressure of the church, and today we got congratulations from the church on the occasion of its restoration," he said.

In addition, a Russian Orthodox priest attended the ceremony.

Despite the good feelings at the dedication, some problems remain, including money.

"We already owe the construction company roughly $1 million. And the overall cost of the works may reach $5 million, plus a similar sum to build the JCC," Goldschmidt said.

The division within Russia's Jєωιѕн community was also in evidence last week.

Russia's second chief rabbi, Berel Lazar, did not attend the ceremony.

He later explained that he did not accept an invitation because other Lubavitch rabbis had not been invited.

Despite the problems, though, the event was a chance for Moscow's Jєωry to shine -- and revel.

"It was a very moving experience. Here I was on a street where Yiddish and Hebrew music was being played, with Jєωιѕн adults and children dancing and singing without any fear, celebrating the renaissance of the Jєωιѕн commmuity in Moscow," said Mark Levin, the executive director of the Washington-based NCSJ: Advocates on Behalf of Jєωs in Russia, Ukraine, the Baltic States & Eurasia.

Remember that Alexei II and the EP Bartholomew I and a huge number of Eastern Orthodox bishops were together with the Antipope John Paul II on January 24, 2002 at Assisi blaspheming God and apostasizing from God together with every imaginable form of idolater and practioner of sorcery and magic in a convocation to Satan with the Jєω Rabbis as the core of it. They are all on their way to hell.
