    • You know that people don't just kiss the pope's ring. Personally, I've kissed Bishop DeGaleretta's ring. It's a sign of respect. It has nothing to do with idolatry.

    • The article is not even written in correct English.  It is silly.  It is a sign of respect for the office of a bishop.  In the Eastern Church, people kiss the hands of priests sometimes too.  When you consider what those hands do for our salvation, it hardly seems inappropriate.  Also I doubt that Pope Benedict or any other pope has ever forced anyone to kiss his ring.

    • The proper (or traditional) etiquette in a papal audience would be to kiss the Pope´s feet, followed by a kissing of the ring of the fisherman.

    Of course, basically the whole court ceremony (and even the name "Papal Court") was abolished by Paul VI.
