Sad thing is there was no trace of religious sentiment in his book. He spent 30+ years inside.
I wonder if Kash R. has any religious sentiment coming out of prison?
From what I hear, a few people who are released from prison have
been found to have acquired some religious sense while in there.
But most do not pick up any religion while incarcerated.
There is a prison ministry tradition, but here in L.A., under Cardfile
Balony --- I mean, Roger Cardinal Mahony, the rules were changed.
Volunteers no longer pray the Rosary with inmates, because that is
not allowed. They can't give them brown scapulars because gangs
abuse the message (they think so long as they're wearing a
scapular when they commit a crime, they'll go to heaven if they
die during the crime). Priests who visit prisoners are never allowed
to offer the CTLM but only NovusOrdo at most. Usually they only
have a "prayer meeting" or really what it turns into is a gripe
session. Volunteers are encouraged to "listen" to the inmates, and
in practice, there is literally no end to the complaints they have to
talk about. Inmates generally don't want to hear any words of
faith or trust in God or teachings of Jesus or wisdom of the saints.
They only want to complain about why they're not guilty and they
are mistreated and they don't belong in prison.
And they don't want to hear about Purgatory. They think they are
in hell already, and 'to hell' with Purgatory.
Did Mr. Register spend 34 years NOT in prayer when he could have
been offering it up to help the Holy Souls in Purgatory? Chances
are, he'd never heard of that concept. Or if he had, a Protestant
'minister' would have stepped right up to tell him there is no value
in "works."
