I was watching a you-tube docu on B-17's operating out of UK & it showed how the Boeing pilots had to let go of all controls on final bombing run whilst the Carl Norden (Jєωιѕн surname - not confirmed) bomb sight 'computer' took over flying of the plane and auto-dropped the bombs.
(That's why "bombs away" is shouted to pilots to get them to take back controls fast & get the hell out of there!)
