I know much has been refuted against Protestantism, but one verse bugs me as making this passage symbolic.

John 6:35 - I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.


Is there any refutation to this?

Matthew 26 :

26 *And whilst they were at supper, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke, and gave to his disciples, and said: Take ye, and eat: This is my body.

27 And taking the chalice he gave thanks: and gave to them, saying: Drink ye all of this.

28 For this is my blood of the new testament which shall be shed for many, for the remission of sins.


Why didnt he say This Bread Symbolizes my Body?

Why didnt he Say the contents of This Chalice Symbolizes my Blood?

John 6 : 49 *Your fathers did eat manna in the desert, and they died.

50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven: that if any one eat of it, he may not die.

51 I am the living bread, which came down from heaven.

52 If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread which I will give, is my flesh for the life of the world.

53 The Jєωs, therefore, disputed among themselves, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat?

54 Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say to you: Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you.

55 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

56 *For my flesh, is meat indeed: and my blood, is drink indeed:

57 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, abideth in me, and I in him.

58 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, the same also shall live by me.

59 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Not as your fathers did eat manna, and died. He that eateth this bread, shall live for ever.

60 These things he said, teaching in the ѕуηαgσgυє, in Capharnaum.

61 Many, therefore, of his disciples, hearing it, said: This saying is hard, and who can hear it?

Jesus didnt change his story even when many disciples left because of it.  He said AMEN AMEN to emphasis it and you may note - Holy Communion and Transubstantiation completely substantiate Catholic Exegesis.

If you want to throw in the fact that in John 6 Jesus multiplied the Loaves and Fishes as a miracle prior to the discourse - the Commentary by St Paul regarding  Worthy reception of Holy Communion or the Fact that Jesus was Born in Bethlehem which translated means "House of Bread" and was immediately placed in a Manger - which is a feeding trough for animals - then Let the Protestant try to refute the entire Argument.
