  • Heard it through the grapevine from a inner circle person, so definitely true.

  • For those of us with only a passing knowledge of Garabandal, can you explain who this man is, what is connection is with Garabandal, and what the impact is of this event?

"Lomangino, when young, had been in an accident and lost both sight and smell. He regained his sense of smell when in the confessional with St Pius of Pietrelcina. He then visited Garabandal where one of the visionaries was told that he would regain his sight on the day of "the Miracle". Joey Lomangino is now in his 80s but still very much alive."

Obviously since the last sentence above is no longer true he cannot recover his sight at the miracle.  This damages the credibility of the visionaries.

  • The main seer, Conchita, said, clearly and on several occasions, that he Joey Lomangino would get new eyes on the day of the miracle.  This was something she claimed Our Lady had told her.

No attempt was ever made to retract that statement or qualify it.  The stated and clear interpretation was always that a living blind man would be given new eyes and his vision restored.

He was an Italian American blinded, aged 16, when a truck tyre exploded in his face.  Some 16 years later he was in Garabandal during the apparitions as he had built up and sold a refuse business and had enough wealth for a tour of Europe.

He spent the rest of his life promoting Garabandal.

There is an interview with him from 10 or so years ago on EWTN

  • Sometimes I get the apparitions confused but I thought Garanbandal was always strongly suspect.
For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect. (Matthew 24:24)

Are you sure it was Garabandal and not one of the other apparitions you suspected?

So are you saying that the Garabandal fanatics have been waiting for "the miracle" to happen (and when 'Joey' would have his sight restored), but since "the miracle" hasn't happened yet and now 'Joey' has died, the fanatics have nothing to wait for anymore?

What was this "day of the Miracle" supposed to be, anyway?

If I were a Garabandal devotee, I would say that his death and his receiving new eyes might be the same event!

The trouble with that claim is that it would still only be true if he died on the day of the miracle.  Since the miracle did not happen when he died (yesterday ?) the claim is clearly false.

This is only from memory but I seem to remember that there was an earlier claim which was along the line of 'The pope will see the miracle from wherever his is'.  It referred to a specific Pope.  I think JP2 was the last possible Pope that this could be applied to.  When the Pope died the claim was modified that the Pope would see the miracle from heaven.

It's all getting a bit too Pythonesque to me...

Game Show Host (John Cleese): Good evening and welcome to 'Stake Your Claim'. First this evening we have with us Mr Norman Voles of Gravesend who claims he wrote all Shakespeare's works. Mr Voles, I understand you claim that you wrote all those plays normally attributed to Shakespeare?

Voles (Michael Palin): That is correct. I wrote all his plays and my wife and I wrote his sonnets.

Host: Mr Voles, these plays are known to have been performed in the early 17th century. How old are you, Mr Voles?

    Voles: 43.

Host: Well, how is it possible for you to have written plays performed over 300 years before you were born?

Voles: Ah well. This is where my claim falls to the ground.

    Host: Ah!

Voles: There's no possible way of answering that argument, I'm afraid. I was only hoping you would not make that particular point, but I can see you're more than a match for me!

Does not wash, because it was supposed to be the day of the Miracle in the Pines in Garabandal a that he got his eyesight back.  Not just any random day.  Yesterday was not the day of the Miracle.

Remember this isn't something Conchita Gonzalez interpreted or summised.  She told the world back in the 1960s and 1970s that Our Lady had told her that Joey would have his eyesight restored.  It was a major part of the Garabandal story and never retracted or corrected by her.

The only way the "prophecy" can be correct is if Joey is raised from the dead with a fresh working pair of eyeballs on the day of the miracle.  Dead people getting their "eyes" is foolish nonsense.

I'm not a devotee though. It's just what I'd think if I were, and then I'd perhaps work on whether the word day meant a literal period of 24 hours!

  • I think we all get new eyes on our death day, even those who lose their soul, see things in new way.

Also the few people I know personally that are SSPX are big on Garabandal to the point that they arrange for passports for their family so they can leave and go to Garabandal at the appointed time.  Honest question:  Would SSPX in general  be a promoter of Garabandal, I know CMRI alway spoke it was a false apparation and not to be believed in any way.
    Please pray for my soul.

I didn't say *I* thought it was suspect.  I meant that I thought it was suspect (in general).  Is this the one where the seers walked backwards?

You bet.  I've rejected it as diabolical for years.  Bishop Williamson believed in it though.

Yes, the running backwards up hills was one of the MANY things that made Garabandal suspect.  One could go on for hours about this thing.

MODERATOR NOTE: In the interests of truth and accuracy, it was Medjugorje that had the backwards-walking "seers".
