  • For the Love of God, keep your children away from public school, (if that option is available for you) and the company of other bad men. You must do everything in your power to hinder the worldly school-system from indoctrinating your children, even going so far as moving from your country if your country forces public school on children. The responsibility of an eternal soul that is greater than the universe must not be lightly dealt with. If you can home-school your kids but doesn't do it, then you really don't care for the spiritual well being of your children. How can a Catholic parent with good conscience let his kids go to public school where he know they will be exposed to bad influences by other children, and brainwashed by teachings such as evolution and sɛҳuąƖ education? Most of the things we learn in school is superfluous anyway and will never be needed. We are bombarded with unnecessary teachings that will occupy much of our time. This will lead souls to forget God and their own spiritual well being! The school system before was very different from today, for back then most states was Christian, and God and the Bible was not banned from school.

Will you allow your children to go to public school and go out with worldly or ungodly friends? Then sadly, you will in fact lose them to the world! God does not tell us as much as to be on guard against demons as with men (Matthew 10:17), for men are oftentimes more harmful to us then the devils are, for demons can be expelled by invoking the most holy names of Jesus and Mary, but man on the other hand cannot be expelled in the same way. And if a man tries to change his life, he will be reviled, despised, and called a most miserable fool, a good for nothing and a man of no education. Many weak souls sadly turn back to the vomit from such and like reproaches out of fear for the loss of human respect!

  • You only bring up public school.  What about those who send their children to traditional Catholic schools?  Also, what about those who are single parents, by no choice of their own, and have to work.

  • Let's play the Hietanen drinking game --

Every time he brings up "mortal sin", take a drink.

  • It looks like Heitanen was banned. Good decision by Matthew to ban him. Heitanen acted as if though nearly everything was a mortal sin. His repuation of 1 says it all.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • Nevertheless, this particular post I pretty much agree with.

Although I'd like CathInfo to be populated with a more serious sort of Catholics (than, say, Fisheaters) -- I think Hietanen was "too serious" -- maybe it's that Puritan/Calvinistic bent? I remember the first time I banned him he was posting that sɛҳuąƖ pleasure within marriage was to be minimized as much as possible (turn the lights off, etc.), and indulged in only for procreation, and other Puritan/Manichaean doctrines.

The first time I banned him, it was for "Puritanism".

I don't think he's really changed all that much.

  • Yeah, he was an extremist, and a home-aloner. I do agree with him on this particular post, but I think CatholicInfo is better off without him.

He does say in the first sentence "if that option is available to you."  I agree with his point about doing everything in your power to keep your children away from bad influences.  In fact, we have an obligation as Catholics to protect our children from all moral harm.  The exception of "traditional Catholic school" or "single mother and no choice" are just that exceptions.  If you have prayerfully made the best choice you possibly can, being honest with yourself and God, then there's nothing else to be done.  You're just supposed to stay vigilant no matter what the circuмstance.

  • When I first saw this I thought, "Wow!  The guy joins in October 2009, makes one post a year and a half later and is banned!"  Then I saw that the 1 was for "reputation" and he had 194 posts.

Is the "Reputation" a count of the positive and negative posts?  If so, I'd better start voting on some of these posts.  I haven't "liked" or "disliked" any posts yet, though I did try to "like" one of my own just to see if people were padding their own stats and found the I can't "like" my own posts.

  • Yes, the more people in the "pool" of voters the more accurate the reputation numbers are going to be.

Voting "Thumbs up" gives the person +1 reputation point
Voting "Thumbs down" gives the person NEGATIVE 1/3 of a rep point.

So if you post something in the Crisis subforum where 30 Sedes will hate it and 10 non-Sedes will like it -- you'll come out even!

  • By the way, Hietanen wrote to me and, not surprisingly, compared himself to Christ when I pointed out his low reputation.

He doesn't realize that extremists and those in error are ALSO shunned...and for good reason!

  • I know he wrote "if that option is available to you" but the rest of his post seemed to totally negate it.  I agree that parents have the duty to protect their children from bad, worldly influences -whether in a school setting or otherwise.

Moreover, I do believe homeschooling is the best option, and we homeschool.  My point was that he made a very harsh, condemning post, IMO.

Also, he only spoke of two options - homeschool or public school.  I wanted to know his thoughts on traditional Catholic schools, such as the CMRI one in Spokane.  Is that a viable option?

Matthew, while I think Hietanen's views can be a little excessive, his views on sɛҳuąƖ pleasure within marriage are not puritan. This is were someone like Christopher West gets history all wrong and almost backwards. While I'm not defending them,  the puritans and calvinists and other Protestants actually exonerated the marriage bed, partly as a way to stick it to Catholic asceticism. What I think you mean is Victorian, albeit some of the patristic as well as the medievals held similar views to them.
    Pray for me, always.

Hietanen is a heretic and borders on insanity. He needs our prayers.
