Al-Rahman said that beating one’s wife is a matter of discipline. He said that the Prophet Muhammad beat one of his wives, Aisha, in order to instill discipline, not because he enjoyed it.

I know that St.Thomas Aquinas said that it's permissible to beat (or corporeally punish) your children strictly for discipline's sake. Absolutely no more than what is necessary. I don't know what he would say about wives though.

I do know that psychologically women's emotions are GENERALLY not as integrated with reason as is the man, so there might be times where the man must discipline the wife. But as a general rule, the wife is an equal companion ("husbands, cling to your wives") and should be treated as such. To the wife, the man should be seen as a friend, a brother, and a father all in one. At least that's my take on it with what I know.

Of course, this applies only to men who have had intellectual affirmation from their own fathers. This does not at all apply to men who have been arrested in adolescence or boyhood due to a proper father being absent in their lives.

Yes Islam allows heating your wife. provided it doesn't left the skin red or black, if her skin is damaged the man has to pay 'Diyah' (a certain amount of money determined by clerics).

I don't recall his name, but one of the people who were baptized by Pope Benedict during the Easter Vigil a few years ago was a prominant journalist from Egypt. He was a Moslem. Today he is a Catholic.

I wouldn't be so quick to paint all Muslims with so broad a brush, not all of them are out there whacking their women around, besides, this is from an Israeli newspaper, it's nothing more than hyperbole and propaganda.

Ask yourself, how many muslim wives have Israeli soldiers gunned down?

Also, have you ever seen some sects of Judaism treat their women?

Talk about abuse.
