I looked at the calendar. The only thing seems to be Summer Solstice. The summer and winter solstice have become big pagan holidays lately, second only to Halloween.
I think you nailed it, TKGS.
Summer Solstice is a big draw for natural man - thus, pagans.
All civilizations in history, once they figured out what was going
on with the movement of the sun, and when its annual
progression to the north (or south if you're in the southern
hemisphere) reaches its limit, they've made it into some kind
of festival or 'holiday' (
holiday is a secularized word that is
derived from
Holy Day, which is obviously Catholic).
Therefore, even if you don't see anything commercialized going
on regarding the solstice,
the spirit of the world makes
people get interested.
Memorial Day might be the 'unofficial start of summer,' but
the summer solstice is the OFFICIAL start of summer, and
this year, it not only falls on a weekend, it falls on Friday,
which is the
beginning of the weekend. All the more reason
to 'celebrate'.
