  • $38 with free shipping -- a great pair of headphones. They sound awesome -- with great bass response and everything. They are cupped, so they keep out external noise.

I use them almost every day. After a friend on Facebook was complaining about a noisy house, I gave out this link. Then I realized that many on CathInfo might be in the same boat:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003LPTAYI/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=httpwwwchanco-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B003LPTAYI

This headphones are really good. You don't need to spend any more than $38 for a GOOD pair of headphones. These will actually last. It's silly to buy cheap $15 or $20 ones and have to replace them every year or more -- and they don't sound as good anyhow.

If you decide to buy them, please click-through the link above -- I get my commission that way.

I'm sure you'll notice I don't post testimonials like this very often -- I would only push a product that I really believe is good, and that I have personally tested.

  • Eh, Matthew, they're so so.

The price seems rather high too.  And I'm not sure why you think they are more durable.

The $20 dollar Sony headphones are horrible, I'll grant you that.

  • I've got to say, 4 stars from 450+ reviews is pretty darn good I'd say.

Most people who buy headphones have heard nothing better with which to compare it.

If you really listen to music a lot it's worth spending the money for something better.  You'll be blown away if you buy something that's nice.  And you need some sort of amp and a good sound card too.

  • These headphones sound great -- and I downgraded to on-board sound (basic sound card that comes with motherboard) about 6 months ago (long story).

I love my music, but I suppose I'm no "audiophile" -- still, I know good when I hear it, and these headphones are a great deal especially for $38.

    To answer S2S's question --

I sit at my computer all day for my various jobs. A Gregorian chant CD website, my computer programming career, even CathInfo. Every way I earn money is done from home. So I listen to a lot of music here on my computer.

I wouldn't be caught dead with one of those bluetooth things in my ear 24/7. I think that looks stupid, and there's something wrong with never being unplugged from the electronic world.

  • I have the HD 598s.  I upgraded to them from the Equation RP 21s.

The price has been increased $60 on Amazon since I bought these.

I should point out I'm not just listening for recreation or enjoyment, I have some unrealistic musical ambitions.

Actually I was thinking of something like this:

But the bluetooth thing 24/7 is indeed annoying. I wear one for work, but its designed for the office (much bigger than the small ones people wear outside). I did make an observation to my friend- its always, and I mean always black people who seem to walk around talking obnoxiously loud with those things. It doesn't matter where they are, they are on them 24/7 around here. And they're always so loud, and always black!

Something along the lines of being a musician, composer, conductor.

Not that anything else is any better nowadays, but isn't it scary getting into music! I've always thought it was a lot about chance...

  • It's too bad the hd 598s have gone up in price, but I suppose it's not surprising given how well-received they've been according to the review sites.

I recommend spending at least $100 on headphones.

The difference between that and headphones that cost $50 and under seems to be huge.

Having a successful musical career and having a love of music are two different things.

I don't expect the former, but I do expect to progress to be a decent musician someday.

Since I've started ear training going to the symphony is simply delightful.
