  • I don't know how God thinks -- except for what He has revealed clearly through His Church

One thing that has not been made clear is such speculation as you sometimes hear that He allows this natural disaster or that for this or that purpose

In any case, it is interesting that most people do not seem to care about the homeless.

That has been my own personal experience in life, that hardly anyone gives a rip... always blaming the victim and etc.. ( and I was hardly born yesterday)

so now you have these storms that have made thousands and thousand of people homeless

    well, you tell me....

Again, I will not presume to say that God does ... anything... for any particular purpose... but for once the focus is on homeless people. Maybe not all homeless deserve to be there?

    I dunno

  • We are all here for the same purpose, to Know, Love and Serve God.  We are His instruments and He uses us as He Wills, at times He will use the homeless to stir up compassion within those who have temporal favors.

Could He be telling some that this is the time to Love and Serve: "For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink, I was a stranger, and you took me in."

Could He be showing the homeless how to Know Him, He has brought many to their knees.
    Please pray for my soul.

    good points
I think that if you are not at some point brought to your knees, you are not walking with Jesus .. even if you claim that you are, which many falsely do claim

I don't know who your friends are, but in my experience it is not true that people don't care about the homeless. I do know people who differentiate between those who are homeless through no fault of their own (which was the case in the time of Jesus) and those who have chosen a life of alcohol and other drugs.
At any rate, it is wrong to blame God for disasters which may not be natural. Research weather warfare and you will understand that weather-control technology exists, and international treaties exist to attempt to control their use in warfare.

the implication here is that people can control such storms and so it is their fault, not God's
I am not even going to dignify that with a response, other than to say that when such can be proven, then I will respond
and you may want to notice that NOWHERE did I say that God put these storms on people for such and such reason
    reading comprehension issues?

  • would God do all that damage just to get our attention vis a vis homelessness in general?

well, when I was young I would have said that is a very foolish and ignorant thought. And perhaps that is true.

But that's the point: We don't know how God thinks

  • I think society today needs to tamp down on the constant hyperbole.  The hurricanes are powerful storms, and they have destroyed property, inconvenienced many people, and killed a few hundred.  When put in historical perspective, however, things are pretty darn rosy right now.

For example, Spanish Flu killed 100 million people in 1918.

The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 killed 3,000 in a few minutes and leveled 80% of the city.

The Black Death killed 200 million (a fifth of the global population) in the 14th Century.

Mount Vesuvius took out the entire city of Pompeii in the year 79.

When we don't think about this historical perspective, we can easily think that every natural disaster is God's wrath.  When put into perspective, we're doing OK.

I may not say that God does this (say in an absolute way that is)
but I will conversely not say that He is beyond such
those who do that have apparently not read the Old Testament, which speaks quite repetitively on God's WRATH against sin
We do not always realize how holy God is... But we have to get a clue on this... or we will not be in Heaven, where there is nothing Unholy... nothing at all... "No unclean thing will enter" --which means not even the desire for sin..

    not one particle
