Folks, this is a sad day. In spite of the best efforts and prayers of many Catholics, Ireland, up until relatively recently a bulwark of the Catholic Faith, appears to be the latest victim of the Sodomite lobby. This is all part of a well-planned and relentless secularist agenda to de-Christianize Ireland, and pro-marriage, pro-family groups and a weakened hierarchy unfortunately prove powerless to stop the descent into lawlessness. May God have mercy on us all.

Both sides in Ireland's same-sex marriage debate have acknowledged that the "yes" vote has succeeded. NPR's Ari Shapiro, speaking with Weekend Edition Saturday host Scott Simon, says that although Ireland is a predominately Catholic country and many clergy urged a no vote, "the Church has had a lot of scandals" in recent years. Without a doubt, he says, the Church is "one of the losers in this vote."

The head of the Iona Institute, which ran the No campaign in Ireland's vote to legalize same-sex marriage, has tweeted his congratulations to the yes campaign ...

... It used to be that Irishness was defined by affection for the Catholic Church and resistance to European liberal trends. So stubborn was this identity that the country took longer than the rest of Western Europe to embrace secularism. But the paedophile revelations of the 1990s rightly rocked faith in the Church as an institution, while a series of recent scandals shook faith in its actual theology. The latter set of outrages were, frankly, distortions of the facts. It was wrongly claimed that a woman had been allowed to die because Catholic doctors would not give her a life saving abortion (no such thing even exists). It was falsely charged that a Catholic children's home had dumped the bodies of hundreds of unwanted babies into a septic tank. Never mind that both stories crumbled under scrutiny – the popularity of them spoke to a growing sense that everything wrong with Ireland was due to the imported tyranny of Catholicism. Shake off the last remnants of traditional religious authority, it was reasoned, and Ireland could finally join the 21st century. Au revoir, Father Ted.

To emphasise, the Yes vote was undoubtedly a reflection of growing tolerance towards gαys and lesbians. But it was also a politically trendy, media backed, well financed howl of rage against Catholicism. How the Church survives this turn, is not clear. It'll require a lot of hard work and prayers.

It should at least make the difference between a Novus Ordo adherent like Mary McAleese and her pervert son on the one hand and Catholics, on the other, of whom there are not too many now. She uses her knowledge of canon law (she is studying for a Licentiate of Canon Law) to attack the faith.

They are the "victim" of absolutely nothing; they deliberately rejected God and the Catholic Faith.

Exactly. One has to remember that the last 10 years have been a period of deep, deep anti-clericalism in Ireland. That's why the country that only decriminalized ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity and came within 10,000 votes of keeping divorce illegal had this happen.

And like the divorce referendum, it's the liberal fag-lovers in Dublin who forfeit their own salvation that caused it. Take out the capital in the votes and it would've failed.

Look at countries like Kenya and Peru who chose God and rejected same sex marriage.

I keep thinking about other parts of the world where Christians are being murdered and kidnapped while the lukewarm cowards voted. "Yes".  I'm sure Dolan is doing a jig.

I'm shocked at the number of people who are atheists in our area.  In schools, there are children who are atheists.  It was a small minority who voted bibles out of schools.

According to what I've read so far, it's Dublin that carried it.

Unfortunately there was only one constituency in Ireland that had a majority No Vote - and that was Roscommon - South Leitrim. That was probably because there is a lower population of young people and a higher population of elderly people there. Every other constituency voted Yes. It ain't just the cities unfortunately.  Ireland has lost all sense of what Catholicism is.  I'm surprised that God hasn't rained down fire from Heaven already, we should know better.  Just goes to show as well how Vatican II and it's errors can erode the Faith, even in Ireland where our ancestors suffered for hundreds of years to preserve it.
