They are talking Heat index, not actual temperature, but either way, that is hot! I never knew it could get that hot anywhere.

In the city of Bandar Mahshahr (population of about 110,000 as of 2010), the air felt like a searing 165 degrees (74 Celsius) today factoring in the humidity.

Although there are no official records of heat indices, this is second highest level we have ever seen reported.

To achieve today’s astronomical heat index level of 165, Bandar Mahshahr’s actual air temperature registered 115 degrees (46 Celsius) with an astonishing dew point temperature of 90 (32 Celsius).

This 165 reading, recorded at 4:30 p.m. local time Friday, comes one day after the heat index soared to 159 degrees (70 Celsius) in the same location.

Bandar Mahshahr sits adjacent to the Persian Gulf in southwest Iran where water temperatures are in the 90s. Such high temperatures lead to some of the most oppressive humidity levels in the world when winds blow off the sweltry water.

In southeast Iran, also along the Persian Gulf, Jask, Iran observed a heat index of 156 degrees (69 Celsius) on Friday (air temperature 102.2 degrees with a dew point of 91.4 degrees).

Although there are no official records, 178 degrees (81 Celsius) is the highest known heat index ever attained. It was observed in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia on July 8, 2003. In his book Extreme Weather, weather historian Christopher Burt says Dhahran, also on the Persian Gulf, registered an air temperature of 108 degrees (42 Celsius) and a dew point of 95 (35 Celsius), which computes to such an extreme heat index level.

This week’s extreme heat index values have occurred as a punishing heat wave has engulfed the Middle East.

Suffering is indeed relative. Just when we think our cross is getting too heavy, we encounter or read about a much more difficult situation.

I think I'd find a way to the closest Persian Gulf tributary (not far from this city), and park myself on the water's edge 'til the heat wave passed. I wonder what means the people take to survive this? These extreme temps are common in some parts of the middle east.

Hasn't Iran spoken in an officially manner in the UN that the U.S./west has been waging weather war on them? These numbers surely make it conceivable.

I don't know how much relief that would be, they said the water temp in the Persian Gulf is in the 90s.

Seems like going underground is the only place to find relief - even with air conditioning in the houses, wouldn't temps still be around 100 inside?

I've been in Arizona when it was 110 on the car thermometer and dry heat or not, that is hot! - and in Palm Springs, CA when it said 120 degrees and walking against the 40mph wind at that temperature was almost like sticking your head in your furnace. If I never feel what 165 feels like, that's fine with me.

Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this intense "heat wave" was caused by some CIA/Mossad weapon of weather manipulation

Yes....."Israel" is looking for the blood and suffering of the Persian (Iranian) people any which way they can get it.....we all know an "Iranian attack" will happen so enough- they need one in order to justify their next war

No, everything is not indoors with air conditioning, especially if your home has been bombed or you're homeless or the electricity supply is erratic.

Why would they not say both. After all, America and Israel are close allies. America follows Israel's command.

The heat index, also known as the apparent temperature, is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature.

I have felt those temperatures referred to in the OP and it is certainly unpleasant.

Or the fact that Iran is mostly desert where these types of temperatures aren't exactly unusual because of little rain and dry ground. In some parts of Arizona/California/Nevada, this could happen.
