  • Hi everyone!  I've been absent for about 2 weeks because we have a new baby daughter.  She was born on Nov 3 and her name is Merryn Genevieve.

This is the first child we've had baptized as traditional Catholics.  I was a truly amazing and beautiful event.  I really hate that NO Catholics are missing so much.

She cried the entire time, right up until our priest poured water on her head for the 3rd time.  At that precise moment it was as if her tiny soul just KNEW something incredible had happened.

I probably won't be around a lot for the next few months, but I will try to come around when I get a few minutes.

I see it has been pretty busy around here....

    First, Congratulations!

There isn't a lot of information on the Internet about St. Merryn that I could find. All I got was this:

    http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=764

and another site it said that she was the patron saint of Paisley, Scotland.

What made you choose that name, CathMom, if I may be so bold as to ask?
St. Jude, who, disregarding the threats of the impious, courageously preached the doctrine of Christ,

    Long story.

I'll try to make it short, though.

Please keep in mind that, when we first had children, we were not Christians, much less Catholics.

My husband and I grew up with very common names, so I was always  called my name and my last initial.  So was he.  We hated it.  So when we started having children it became really important that our children didn't have very common names.

Over the years, we've developed some other weird naming rules, like no to people with the same phonetic sounds...

When you get to child #7, it gets harder.  This time, we thought we'd try to have both names saint names.  We had first thought of Charlotte, but little Charlotte's started popping up everywhere around here.  So we ruled it out at the last minute.

Then we found Merryn.  There is some confusion about St. Merryn, but more than likely he was a man, also know as St. Mirin or Mirren.  In anycase, he went through Celtic Ireland and Scotland converting the pagans.

We thought, in this modern time of such huge pagan influence, having St. Merryn as a protector would be useful.

We opted for the feminine version of Mirren which is Merryn.

Also, we just like Irish/Scottish/Celtic names.
