  • I have stumbled upon this website while researching whether or not the local mission is still active. I found a thread, SSPX Transfers 2015, and read that the priest at my mission is leaving.

Who am I? One of the confused Catholics that Bishop Lefebvre addressed. In the thread above, Matthew, states

    Quote from: Matthew

I never understood the Catholics that go "eastern" as their response to the Crisis in the Church.

There is a famous saying: "To thine own self be true."

Mine is a long, convoluted history. Why am I an Eastern Catholic? Well, that in itself is a miracle.

I was born into a Roman Catholic family. My parents (my entire family on both sides eventually) left the church in the summer of 1969. I was raised Catholic but outside of the church. I attempted to go back into the church when I was 18 and in college. I didnt recognize the church and was not able to get the attention of the priest or the nun in charge of the school there to talk to. So I wandered away. I remained a Christian. I married a Christian. Together we wandered Christiandom. Eventually we studied Eastern Orthodoxy, but chose Catholicism instead. Easier said than done, in what I have learned, our extreme liberal diocese. Because I remember the Latin Mass, I have been critically labeled a Traddie. I didnt know with that came rejection. My husband was not able to convert to Roman Catholicism, I was not able to revert, and I actually gave up trying. Then my husband found an Eastern Catholic parish. So, by way of marriage, I am an Eastern Catholic. The Roman diocese didnt want my husband and never wanted me back in the first place. Why I am here? I am a Roman Catholic. I want my church back.

After reading a few threads I wonder if the SSPX is a safe place to be, is it a safe place for those who remember what it was like pre V2? I was finally able to meet an FSSP priest and realized that it is a front to capture SSPXer's and other trads.

I want my church back. Where do I go?

    Thanks for listening.

  • Welcome, Jovita!

Where to go varies a lot depending on where you are. Sometimes the SSPX is a good option and sometimes it is not. I recommend starting a new thread asking for advice specific to your location. There's a good chance someone here knows the ins and outs of the options in your area.

  • My name is Theresa.  I live in Spokane, WA, where I have lived for 42 years. By definition, I guess I could and would define myself as a 'cradle catholic".  I was baptized into the Catholic Church, some 50 years ago and was raised, and attempt to lived my Catholic faith as best as I can over time. However, I do not believe one can do it alone.
I am a home care provider for people who are homebound and have disabilities or need home care services of some kind. I am also someone who has studied history in college in my spare time. I am not exceptionally exciting over all...but I may ask a lot of questions on this site...which is why I joined...so bear with me!

  • Welcome, Theresa. Ask questions to your heart's content.
That is a very important work. God bless you and those you care for.

  • Hi, CathInfo forum members!

    I am jmjZelie.

I am a Catholic convert of 6 years. My husband and I converted to the Faith together. We currently have five children. We homeschool with a Catholic curriculum, which we love.

Soon after our conversion, I started learning about Traditional Catholicism. We started slowly shifting our family life and faith practices to be more in line with Traditional Catholicism. We now have access to a weekly Latin Solemn High Mass, and we are learning Latin (slowly!) as a family.

I hope to learn a lot from participating here!

Welcome,  you certainly are fortunate to have a Solemn High Mass with Priest, Deacon and Sub Deacon EVERY week.  Do you go to a seminary for Mass?

  • Aryzia, what tipped you off finally after spending most of your adult life in the novus ordo pews?

  • When I was a kid, my mom was a friend of Fr. Shell (not sure of spelling). When Father S joined up with Archbishop Lefevbre, my mother could not understand breaking with Rome and warned Father S not to "leave" the Church since the Archbishop was not under the pope.  As a kid, that kind of stuff is powerful coming from your mom, so I closed the door on the SSPX for years thinking they were wrong and that we had to stay scrunched down in the tiniest corner of the conservative remnant of the Novus Ordo.  Being naturally inclined to research, I eventually came across the subject again after stumbling into Fr. Wathen's book.  The minute I read it, I knew.  The hardest part was that I knew my die-hard Catholic mom had been mistaken all those years.  Against my extended family's wishes, my immediate family and I went from adoration that Good Friday at the Novus Ordo, to our local SSPX chapel that Easter Sunday, until the subject of Resistance came up some years later.  I thought they were wrong at first glance, but upon looking into it (as I am wont to do) I saw the truth in the Resistance position.

  • Greetings,
I'm Roman, I've been reading this forum on and off for quite a while now so I figured I should join just to have an account. I find this forum to contain lots of interesting discussion and perspectives. I'm 33 and married, live on and off between Nebraska and Michigan. My father and grandfather found the SSPX in the 80's in Bay City, Michigan, so thankfully I didn't have to grow up attending Novus Ordo masses. I attended a Catholic school until 4th grade when homeschool was legalized and was homeschooled from that point on. I'm not an overly social person in general, so I probably won't post a great deal but here I am, nonetheless.

On a sidenote: My father, who is in his elderly years, is growing skeptical of even the SSPX and has privately shown an interest in CMRI and Sedevacantism which caught me by surprise given that he has "Sedevacantism: A False Solution to a Real Problem" on his bookshelf. Quite frankly, I'm not sure many of us know what to make of the crisis in the Church and the varying Traditional reactions to it anymore.

  • Hello, I’m Johann, a student in his 20s. I am currently at the conclusion of the Cassiciacuм thesis (papa materialiter non formaliter), though I am not dogmatic about it.

There is so much confusion, tragedy and heresy. I am so very anxious and fearful, clinging to whatever literary scraps of pre-conciliar Catholicism I can find.

  • Hello everyone, Saint Maurice is my patron Saint for Confirmation, but my real name is Allan.

I am married with five beautiful children.  I was in the Army, then a DoD contractor in Seoul, Korea; and now I'm a DoD contractor in Guam.

A bit about my journey, to date:

I grew up "Catholic", under the Novus Ordo, and was even an Altar Boy.  However, until three years ago, I almost left our Faith.  I thank Our Lord Jesus Christ for gently bringing me back; I strove to learn as much as I could about our Faith, with the intent to worship God properly.  That's when I stumbled onto references for the Traditional Latin Mass, and from there, the rest is history.

I registered because of some of the resources and topics being discussed, which I am finding quite useful.  It's almost as if I've been led here.

Cheers, everyone, and have a blessed day!

    Pax
