  • You have to be a member for a while before you can use PMs. I am not sure how long you have to wait. Anyway, welcome.

  • Hello!

My name's Nick, I live near Vancouver, Canada, and although I was born and raised a Roman Catholic (in the Novus Ordo Rite), I recently converted to Orthodox Christianity. Now I attend an OCA church nearby.

I'm fully prepared to talk at length on anything related to Orthodox Christianity, the Great Schism, and matters of Faith, since before my conversion I read extensively on both sides and reviewed arguments both ways.

So, if you'll have me here, I'm happy to discuss!

    Nick

  • Welcome to CI, Nick.  You aren't welcome to proselytize here.  If you created an account, I hope it was to learn, not to teach.  May the Blessed Virgin draw you to her Ever-Glorious Son.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

  • Thank you! Can you clarify the difference between learning and teaching? If I can avoid it, I'd prefer to not be kicked off the forum... :)

I mean that I hope your time on CI is spent mainly in silence reading and learning, not "sharing" your faith with us*; and when you choose to post, that your posts be earnest, honest, and for the purposes of achieving the truth.

*I don't mean to sound cold or unwelcoming, as my own becoming a traditional Catholic is in large part due to the information and direction of certain internet fora, but there is no benefit in appreciating error or reveling in ecuмenism.  I pray for your conversion to the Catholic faith, which, if you were raised Novus Ordo, you were unfortunately deprived of.

  • Hi.

I am a Catechists and a Extraordinary Minister of Communion in my parish. I have been serving the Church for more than 20 years.

I have been looking for a place like this where we can share our faith, views and practices. I have probably not been looking hard enough, but I finally found this forum.

In my country where Islam is the main religion there are a lot of things we are not allowed by law to do in order to share our faith with others. We are not even allowed to use the Arabic word word of 'Allah' to mention God in our local language.

In my ministry I have found that many of the faithful here have very weak foundation in the Catholic faith because no form of Christian religious knowledge lesson are allowed in the mainstream educational avenues, while Islam is being freely taught and evangelized even among the non-muslims. So all that we can hope for is to reach out to the church goers and to children attending our Faith Formation Ministry. I am praying for reverse-evangelization whereby the children from our Sunday Schools may pass on what we have shared with them back to the parents.

One of my strategy is to reach out to my friends (many of whom are lapsed Catholics) through a Facebook page I created to share many of the fundamentals of our Catholic faith.

I would like for any members of the Forum here to pay the page a visit and critique if you may. There may be things that I have done wrong, or things that I need to do. You may contact me directly through this forum with your views.

    God bless.

    Yours in Christ
    Greg

  • You're most welcome Greg. I suppose when you say you've been serving the Church for 20 years you mean, as a catechist, do you?
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum. I'm been lurking around and reading for awhile and decided to join.

I'm a traditional Catholic and attend the SSPX.

    God bless.

  • Hi everyone,
I'm Greek Orthodox, and am converting to Catholicism through the Byzantine branch.  Still in the learning process, but i've learned enough to recognize that the Orthodox Church is in schism and not vise versa, as She teaches.  I'm joining through an Eastern rite, because i really don't want to be under the authority of our local RC bishop, whom i believe is hell bound, and taking many others with him.
Holy Mother of God, save us!
Save us from the fires of hell!
