  • Hello!
I am Derrick. I just joined today. I am 20,  I was raise Catholish, fell away, came back, and still trying to get bearings. Some friends who were instrumental in my reversion were charismatics, but I do like the more traditional side. I don't know many traditionalist Catholics, though, so I would love to connect with some more and get advice on the more traditional mindsets and ideas.

  • Welcome tacolegs! I do hope you find what you need here. Just ask the questions that are concerning you, on another thread though.

Ok, here's a brief profile of me.

I have no desire to ever get married and I don't want to become a nun, so I don't know what God has in store for me in the future.

Anyway, that's the short of it.
wow, i could really relate to this last thing. I dont feel called to religious life (except that i am religious by anyone's standards) but dont necessarily feel called to marriage (for a plethora of reasons). I have never had any "luck" in romance so steer clear of such. Anyway, just thought i would intro myself. I'm older than you, haven't been outside the USA except a trip to Mexico once yrs ago when much younger. I've been "Catholic" all my life but only serious about my faith for about 1/3 of my life, the last 1/3. You know, one thing i CANNOT relate to is your apparently close family ties. Yes, i u/stand u being tired and all, but you dont know what its like to be totally alienated from family. I've gotten used to it b/c I had no choice but in a way you never get used to it. Anyway, i will leave it at that 4 now, not even sure u are checking into this part of the forum anymore... God bless

  • Well, here goes:

My real name is Walter. I live in Scottsdale, AZ. I am originally from PA and my wife is from NY.
We were both raised Roman Catholics. My Father was a Byzantine Catholic and I have been told that according to Canon Law that identity automatically is mine by birthright.

I am Social Worker by trade. I work with homeless men who are addicts, mentally ill, and those criminal histories including sex offenders.

I have degrees in Human Services, Chemical Dependency Case Management, and Biblical Studies.
I am currently in the Orthodox Christian Studies Degree program at St. Athanasius.

I am praying one day for a Sedevacantist Byzantine Church in our area. We attended a Byzantine Church in Gilbert, but it was primarily made up disgruntled Roman Catholics and Cradle Byzantines who were not very friendly.

I am going on too long--vanity.

Pray for me that the Lord will have a Byzantine Church one day that I can be a part of.

    God Bless,

    Volodymyr

I would like to remain anonymous for now.

I want to convert to the Catholic Church.

I live in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

If there are any Dominicans in this group that can help

me that would be greatly appreciated.

  • Welcome Volodymyr, I hope you find what you are looking for here. I would have thought that you are Catholic through Baptism rather than through birthright. But maybe you mean your affiliation with the Byzantine rite is yours through birthright.

Why are you studying for an Orthodox Christian Studies Degree when you are Catholic?

Thank very much Nadir! My Grandparents were Roman Catholics. My father was a Roman Catholic but dropped out to join protestantism at age 21. My mother did not have a religious upbringing. I was raised to despise and mock the Catholic faith but was close very close to my Grandmother and always for as long as I can remember ended up despising the Protestant faith.

I was Baptized in the Baptist Church through the pressure of my parents but stopped going to the Baptist Church as soon as I had the chance. Since I left the Baptist Church I have been studying all Religions and have made the decision to join the traditional Catholic Church the one my Grandparents were a part of.

For awhile however I have been trying to get my parents to get away from Protestantism but they want nothing to do with the Catholic church. I have also tried talking to my brothers and sisters but they too don't want anything to do with the Catholic faith. We were raised to believe the the Catholic Church was the whore of Babylon and the Pope would be the false Prophet and Pope Francis doesn't really help. And trying to explain traditional Catholicism to a Baptist is like trying to teach Chinese to your dog. Its really frustrating.

So I am leaving them behind for now and will be doing this on my own. I am trying to organize my life as well because technically I am not even Catholic yet. I need to get the sacraments etc. I think I need to get re-baptized and there is like a thousand other things I need to do. And thats why I joined this forum so I can keep myself motivated. So thank you very much for your reply!

  • Greetings! First name is Cody, and that's all for my name.

    - 24 years old. Have been going to the Latin Mass since May 2015. Started with Indult and now go to a SSPX parish fairly quickly.

    - Grew up in a family of dedicated liberals who were baptized Catholics but clearly fell away. No extended relatives who understand there is a crisis in the church. Pretty lonely in the Catholic family department. Prayers for them would be great.

    - Currently single. Barred from the priesthood because of above mentioned family situation.

    - Been reading these forums for about a month and a half and intrigued by much of the discussion and the reason I am here.

    Have a good evening.

    Welcome to the forum, Cody!

Being the only traditional Catholic among one's family and relatives is not easy.  I know because I am in the same situation.  My family thought of traditional Catholics as being worse than protestants or Jews.  So, trying to be one was really rough at first...

As a result of this, I left home when I was 18 and worked as a governess for traditional Catholic families in order to be able to go to the Latin Mass.  Eventually my family let go of their prejudice concerning the Faith, and asked me to return to help on the farm, saying that they would not pressure me about the novus ordo.

We are all here for you if you ever have questions, just want to chat or need prayers!

    God bless!

    Rita
