"...there are still mountains of trash everywhere and the infectious disease is worsening."

Nothing says “progressive” more than a medieval infectious disease like typhus fever spreading through a city in the year 2019.

Typhus is mainly spreading across the homeless population through fleas that live on the rats that rummage in heaps of trash, however Liz Greenwood, the Deputy City Attorney who works at City Hall contracted the disease. Typhus has spread to City Hall and now all the carpets may need to be replaced. All carpets at Los Angeles City Hall may need to be replaced amid a Typhus outbreak that may have infected one city employee while at work, according to a motion filed by Council President Herb Wesson on Wednesday.

Wesson first became aware of a vermin issue in November 2018, contacted pest control experts and removed all his office’s carpets, according to the motion. The motion reported cleanup issues and a noticeable increase in rodents in the area, which could have contributed to the outbreak. Wesson’s motion asks for a report on the scope of vermin and pest control issues at City Hall, and instructs city staff to report back with a cost estimate for removing all carpets in the building and an assessment of all live plants in any city building.

Symptoms of typhus include fever, headache and a rash. Untreated cases are fatal. “It felt like somebody was driving railroad stakes through my eyes and out the back of my neck,” Greenwood told NBC 4 last week. “Who gets typhus? It’s a medieval disease that’s caused by trash.” Ms. Greenwood believes she contracted typhus from fleas that have infested her office at City Hall East.

“There are rats in City Hall and City Hall East,” Greenwood added. “There are enormous rats and their tails are as long as their bodies.” In October, Mayor Garcetti promised to clean up the heaps of rat-infested trash piling up around Los Angeles to help combat the Typhus epidemic. Even though the Mayor allocated millions of dollars to help clean up the streets in LA, especially Skid Row, known as “the Typhus Zone,” there are still mountains of trash everywhere and the infectious disease is worsening.

KTLA reported that city workers were seen power-washing the ground outside of City Hall Thursday and clearing out piles of rat-infested trash in the area nearby.

Heaps of trash, rats, typhus, exploding homeless population and tent cities — isn’t liberalism grand?

  • There’s a docuмentary on rats that was done a few years ago.  Fascinating, disgusting and scary all at the same time.  Rats are no joke, very smart, very survivalist and they can triple their population in a matter of weeks.  England and NY were part of the docuмentary and some rats are now immune to the old poisons.  They are trying to breed rat terrier dogs as fast as possible.  How many times has God used rats to spread disease and punishment?  Lord have mercy.

I see dogs around everywhere, more so than rats. The average idiot american now is more obsessed with breeding dogs than their own offspring. As a matter of fact, they're more apt to kill one of their own children (abortion or other) than put down some mangy mutt sponging off their premises. The dog problem in America, or should I say the childless/dog-owner problem  far surpasses the vermin that infect our major urban crapholes formerly called "cities" in this country.

Rats are the result of uncleansiness, filth and squalor. Man brings the plague of these critters on his own accord most of the time. If the majority of your population in your area are living like slobs with total disregard for the environment, rats will be a natural result of this effect. Clean up your damn living conditions for crying our loud and stop blaming God.

    We should be more concerned with the two-legged rats infesting our culture as we speak;

  • It seems LA needs a Pied Piper.  Perhaps they will have to pay him in Bitcoin.

    Rats!
They fought the dogs and killed the cats,
And bit the babies in the cradles,
And ate the cheeses out of the vats,
And licked the soup from the cooks’ own ladle’s,
Split open the kegs of salted sprats,
Made nests inside men’s Sunday hats,
And even spoiled the women’s chats
    By drowning their speaking
    With shrieking and squeaking
In fifty different sharps and flats.

    I saw that docuмentary!
It was really interesting, and frightening. It’s hard to believe something so small can Practically wipe out an entire town, and yet they do!

  • Nothing says “progressive” more than a medieval infectious disease like typhus fever spreading through a city in the year 2019. [*]

Not all that bad as rhetoric goes, but in fact, typhus was widespread in prisoner-of-war, concentration, and refugee camps as recently as World War II, which ended in 1945, which was several centuries after "medieval" times [#].

Typhus is mainly spreading across the homeless population through fleas that live on the rats that rummage in heaps of trash [....][*]

Unless this outbreak of typhus truly is a plague from God, infected lice and infected fleas hosted by rats don't just pop into existence out of thin air.  The concept of spontaneous generation was disproven more than a century ago, so those vermin were supplied by some source that's not supernaturalSooo, how did they get to Los Angeles, hmmm?

I suspect that we need to look no farther than the perilous-but-dogmatic promotion of "sanctuary cities" by the left, for which California is the exemplar.  And the fact that illegal immigrants, by definition, are not health-screened before entry to the U.S.A.  This is an extremely important difference from the legal immigrants whose memory is intended to be invoked by the leftists' mantra "we're all children of immigrants",  which is often an emotional irrelevancy.  The issue nowadays is most appropriately stated statistically[‡] not by asking  how few illegal immigrants are infected, but instead whether all of them are free from infection by horrendous diseases that still infest their native 3rd-World, um, banana republics [†], but that were eradicated in the U.S.A. decades ago.  There's no medical reason to assume that those immigrants couldn't bring back those same diseases back to the U.S.A.  All that's required is a flea biting an infected person within the U.S.A.  It's well known that for various reasons, the initial destination of many illegal immigrants is a U.S. hospital, where they expect to receive unlimited free medical care by pleading poverty and invoking federal laws banning discrimination of the basis of "national origin".  They might even be coming to the emergency room of a respectable hospital near you.

Note #: Recentist readers (as in the smugly clueless "if it happened before I was born, I just don't care") out there might need to be informed that World War II was fought in the middle of the 20th Century, which was several centuries after "medieval" times.  Thus the 75th anniversary of the Allied victory to be celebrated in 2020.

Note †: Please note the restraint by this CathInfo member, who decided not to risk C.I.'s mandated G-rating by using the alliterative geopolitical disparagement invoking Hades and gaps in the ground.  It was in widespread use long before the contrived mainstream-media furor over alleged use by Pres. Trump.  Please advise if C.I. owner-moderators would allow me to use that hyphenated phrase despite my caution herein.

Note ‡: It's the same statistical reasoning that must be used to properly evaluate claims of high-percentage up-time in electronic and other systems.
