They don't have the death penalty in Illinois. Maybe that's the problem!

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) -- Prosecutors say a suburban Chicago woman stabbed her 7-year-old son 100 times and a 5-year-old girl about 50 times and slit both their throats because she was angry with her husband.

A DuPage County judge on Thursday ordered 40-year-old Elzbieta Plackowska of Naperville held without bond.

Prosecutor Robert Berlin says Plackowska gave investigators several stories about Tuesday's killings but eventually said she killed her son, Justin, because she was angry that her truck driver husband left her alone to care for the child.

Berlin says Plackowska then killed the girl she was babysitting, Olivia Dworakowski, because the child had witnessed the attack on her son.

Plackowska didn't speak during Thursday's hearing other than to indicate she could not afford an attorney.

Either that, or the Modern World has really, really messed some people up.

I mean, how much trouble could a 7 year old be? It's not like they're in diapers at that age. They really start taking care of themselves by then. And what exactly is this woman SO inordinately attached to that she resents caring for a *single* 7 year old by herself?

7 year olds aren't exactly difficult to care for. I have a son who isn't even 7 yet, and he's my biggest helper around here!

Anyhow, his post made perfect sense without the "embellishments" and I'd say the same thing -- drugs would be the most likely explanation. No normal mother in her right mind could do that to her child. We're not talking about pulling a trigger while in a state of rage and letting the gun/bullet do the dirty work in an impersonal manner -- we're talking about hack-slashing your own flesh and blood, and finishing it off by slitting his throat. Most people wouldn't be capable of doing that to *anyone* no matter how much they "deserved it" -- nevermind your own flesh and blood.
