  • I was presented with this argument by a women.

What would be a good refutation?

    Or, is it logical?

Do you wear a kilt?  Are you Scottish?

    The kilt is male clothing.

There are places where it has been normal to for women to wear pants, but certainly not western style pants, like jeans with a button and a zipper.

These women who wear pants in the western world conform very visibly to the feminist post-Christian fashions.  Where is the necessity that they wear pants?  Don't tell me it's their national dress.  It's the dress of feminist revolution, and that is why they cling to it.

  • I hope those questions were not directed towards me?!

    I am Italian.

The person who presented those questions to me was obviously a feminist and a liberal in the church. I just got tongue tied. The funny thing is, that she was in a conservative skirt and rather pretty. Us Italians have been known to be beguiled very easily.

  • In the Western world, dresses and/or skirts are women's clothing.  Consider these statutes from the State of California:

    Quote
    California Code - Section 12947.5:

    (a) "It shall be an unlawful employment practice for an employer to refuse to permit an employee to wear pants on account of the sex of the employee."

Of course, this is question begging.  If skirts/dresses were not "women's clothing," why would some employers be forcing women to wear them, and what motivation would there be for the California legislature to grant women legal protection to wear pants?

Likewise, AB 196, another California statute provides legal protection to transgender men who wish to wear skirts/dresses, requiring that "that each employee be permitted to dress in accordance with the employee’s gender identity."

In conclusion, the California Code of Law provides legal protection to women who do not wish to wear dresses and/or skirts as well as legal protection to men who do wish to wear dresses and/or skirts.

For traditional Catholics, the teaching of Saint Thomas Aquinas is clear:

    Quote
"As stated in the foregoing Article, outward apparel should be consistent with the estate of the person, according to the general custom. Hence it is in itself sinful for a woman to wear man's clothes, or vice versa; especially since this may be a cause of sensuous pleasure; and it is expressly forbidden in the Law (Deuteronomy 22) because the Gentiles used to practice this change of attire for the purpose of idolatrous superstition. Nevertheless this may be done sometimes without sin on account of some necessity, either in order to hide oneself from enemies, or through lack of other clothes, or for some similar motive." (Summa Theologica, IIa IIae, q.169, a.2, ad 3)

  • Some women wear pants out of vanity, because they think they look poorly in skirts.

The kilt was invented by an English Quaker (Protestant) only a couple centuries ago.

So the movie "Braveheart" wasn't accurate? That took place centuries ago, and all the Scotsmen were wearing kilts.

I know that Hollywood often distorts things, but that would be pretty bad even for them.

I think a lot of women need to wake up and realize what they look like in pants.

Pants do not flatter overweight women AT ALL. Skirts and dresses cover everything up much better.

When I'm out and about, I often have to think, "Does she know how unflattering those pants are? That it doesn't get much worse than how she's dressed?"

  • Originally tunics were worn, then the so-called belted-plaid - which was altered into the kilt in the early 18th Century.

    Just read it here:

I started wearing skirts in high school when I got fed up with how flat out uncomfortable pants were, and I was shocked to see how the entire world changed for the better. When I later found out how much more compatible this was with my faith (was raised by pretty liberal NO parents), I just made it official.

It makes sense! Just like it makes sense to not wear miniskirts- what happens if you drop your purse in public? It just has to live on the floor now because you can't bend over?

  • Tell your lady friend you will wear a kilt every time she wears pants so she won't feel out of place.   :jester: :dancing-banana: :rahrah:
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

That's no kidding! Pants, especially jeans, are very uncomfortable compared to skirts.

I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not, but kilts did not exist back then:

    Quote
    Braveheart (1995) Goofs

    Factual errors:

"Wallace and many other Scottish characters ride horses while dressed in kilts. Even in times and places where the kilt was genuinely worn (it wasn't worn anywhere in Scotland in Wallace's time, and at no time in history was it worn in Wallace's part of Scotland), men who expected to ride anywhere wore trews, not kilts, for the very good reason that it would have been an extremely painful and impractical experience; no underwear was ever worn under the kilt. Kilts were not invented until the 16th Century, more than 200 years after the events in this film."

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112573/goofs

That site mentions the 16th century for the original kilt, but the modern kilt was invented in the 18th century by the Quaker Thomas Rawlinson.

Watch the first few minutes of Braveheart (after the opening credits) and note the appearance of everyone's teeth.  "Hollywood shiny, perfectly white and straight!"  Rob Roy was a better film!

  • People had harder teeth back then.

Honey was the sweetener then, every farm had many hives because the hive had to be destroyed to get honey from it.
