  • These things just jump out at me; I have to comment.

I know it's preaching to the choir and/or beating a dead horse, but I really get annoyed by the portrayal of "the ideal family" out in The World.

(That is why I'm EXTREMELY annoyed when formerly Traditional Catholic enclaves like TAN Books and the SSPX jump on board this insanity train! Trads aren't supposed to be participating in this crap.)

In this picture, not only do you have the classic 2-kids-and-a-dog, but you also have an all-too-realistic portrayal of how old the mom was when she had her kids.

The kids look about 6 and 10.

In this picture, the mom looks about 46. The dad is much harder to pin down (he has one speck of grey on his beard, but some guys get that at 25!). Even though the picture is zoomed out, I'm not fooled. Let's just say that I'm really good at telling true age. Makeup doesn't fool me. I always laugh at those SPAMs that try to catch your eyes with "Grandma looks 29" -- I always mutter to myself "don't insult 29".

Maybe blondes just age poorly; I don't know. That could be part of it. But she looks like a fortysomething suburban mainstream protestant birth controlling-mom. A slightly different version of "her" would give her a shoulder-length ponytail. You can tell in the face when a woman is over 40. Maybe it's the skin, maybe it's a bunch of subtle things your brain takes in all at once. And just maybe birth control/lack of pregnancies/working at "man" type jobs outside the home makes a woman older before her time? That could be part of it too.

  • I honestly don't know how you can tell her age from this picture.  You can hardly see her face.  From this distance I would say late 30's.  She probably started having children in her late 20's.

  • The worst part of this picture is the promotion of pedophilia.

  • No offense, but I think women have a subconscious tendency to let other women "off the hook" as far as age. Kind of like "treat others as you want to be treated" or an unspoken pact all women have.

I'm a bit more objective, since I'm not a woman.

Another thing I wanted to add -- she has the same form/build/dimensions as her husband.

I just can't understand why a man would want to be married to a "woman" who is that skinny, who works/dresses like a man, is as independent as a man, and is barely distinguishable from a man? And their whole lifestyle is vapid and empty. The whole package deal just seems repulsive to me.

Don't mind me, I'm just ripping on the Modern World, one element at a time.

  • What's that science called, where you direct the eye different places in a subconscious manner? There was a whole Catholic docuмentary about this, which featured the San Damiano crucifix. It's where I first learned about that crucifix.

Painters would put little "easter eggs" like this in their paintings, always bad, and the direction the characters were pointing was significant. One's conscious brain always missed such details, so it was obviously aimed at the subconscious.

I remember now...it is called EMBED ART.

  • Actually, now that you mention Pedophilia, I gave the picture a second look, and I found it is much more insidious than merely conveying a modern stereotype about the ideal American family!

Perhaps you're referring to the subtle detail (intended for our subconscious to absorb; it wasn't for CONSCIOUS BRAIN consumption) where the man is pointing at the girl -- a very sensitive part of her, at that -- from his groin area, while dancing in a modern style.

And look at where the boy is looking. At first I assumed he was looking at his parents. But no, he's looking at his dad's groin and/or his mother's groin area.

    Pretty sick! Subtle, but sick!

This stuff is aimed RIGHT at the subconscious.

I guess we need to unsubscribe from all non-Trad-Catholic commercial e-mails, throw all ads in the trash to keep our minds clean from garbage like this.

I always err on the side of caution with men and women. So, I underestimate for people over 25, and overestimate for teens! Younger people don't mind looking a bit older, I reckon.

Anyhow, I'm 41. That lady looks younger than I do!

Actually I thought that women tend to go tough on their female counterparts.  I am being honest not letting anyone off some so-called "hook".  I am 48.  That woman is not 46.  Then again, I can't really see her face/neck.

So you can see where his eyes are directed even though we can't them either?

  • I should know better, but here are my thoughts:

I concur with several here that the couple are in their mid to late thirties, but I am 64 and early fifties can look young.  I also don’t think the woman looks skinny, about midway on the HWP scale in my opinion.

As for “pedophilia”, I confess to being a bit scandalized that the thought comes up in anybody’s mind from the picture, really.

Reflecting back on times past I can picture a not un-similar image from the 1950’s or early 1960’s, including a dog and / or cat, but with some differences of course.  Mom would be sitting at a Wurlitzer home organ or spinet piano (wearing a dress but the hair length could be the same).  Dad would be standing next to her facing the children and leading a family sing along; (He likely wouldn’t be in a suite as this is a less formal family affair but he defiantly would be wearing dress slacks, a shirt AND tie, with a sports jacket or sweater, and SANS beard).  There would be three to five (or even more) children sitting on the floor.  The angle of their gaze would be the same as the children in the picture in this thread but I don’t think anybody would think they were staring at dad’s groin or mom’s derriere.

I am not meaning to argue against anybody else’s perspective but I thought another perspective could be held also.

  • I think they both look perfectly fine, age-wise. We all know though that what is being advertised is not a happy Catholic home. They'd sooner perform a Lady Gag-gag karaoke than a traditional Catholic hymn.

I'd think older ages when getting married are just part and parcel of the age we live in. On the secular side, no one wants the responsibility of kids or the lifelong commitment which marriage entails. On the religious side, there's an amazingly small pool of candidates, especially if you stumble onto tradition as an adult.

Ideally, we should all grow up in a Catholic society but it takes a village and guess what we're nearly out of?

  • I want the 3 minutes I wasted reading thread this back.

If they wanted to sell their product to a Trad market (small), they'd target that. But, they want to sell their product to a mainstream market (large) and so they're targeting that instead.

Actually, this family looks fairly "normal" to me -- two parents with children who could feasibly be their genetic offspring with no obvious indication of previous marriages/relationships. Add the dog and this has been the American standard for some time now. A good percentage of American families today are not nearly this standard.

The two problems I see are the promotion of BC and the lack of distinction between male and female clothing. But, since 90% or more of the population has no problem with these two things, I'm not shocked that they chose to market their product in this fashion.

  • The man and woman look to be mid-30s and the boy could be as old as 12ish.  I don't see any pedo here although the man's hand and finger do look awkward.  The boy is more clearly her child than his--I would have expected his dark hair/eyes and thick brow (skull--not eyebrows) to have been dominant.

Genderlessness is clearly portrayed here, from the clothing to the woman's physically dominant posture/appearance.  I bet he makes less money than she does, and he may even be a pathetic stay-at-home Mr. Mom.  If a threat or trouble presented, he probably wouldn't even get to say enough to make you think his balls may finally be about to drop before she would push him out of the way and take charge.

This genderlessness business is a severe plague upon us right now, and this ad is promoting, buying into, or cashing in upon it, whichever way you want to slice it.  Genderlessness is a critical cog for the advancement of feminism, fαɢɢօtry, trannies, etc.
