  • Once I overheard the below conversation as I walked past a Protestant church.

"We should all study the Bible. The Bible is our highest authority.
We can trust the Bible. Only the Bible, and not fallible humans."

"Pastor, how can we be sure this is true ?"

"Hmmmm... because Martin Luther said so. You know him?
We know what he said is true, since we know his words are
true, we should bear in mind always that the Bible is our only
trustworthy and infallible authority on Earth.

We should not be like Catholics , who listen to the Pope, who
is a fallible human. We should always listen to the Bible
alone. And if anyone has problems understanding the Bible,
you can always come to our Bible study class, which is being led by your pastor.
And he will clarify all ya questions. OK ?"

  • Reminds me of something I read on Patrick Vandapool's site. He said that Protestants say no to "non-self Popery".

  • And where does the Bible come from?  Martin Luther?

Or, did Luther take someone's word for it?

You know Luther wanted to throw out the Book of James from the NT?

So how can you be sure he was right about the other 7 books he
threw out?  On whose authority did he claim that some books were
okay and others not - did he listen to a Jєω tell him what to think?

And yet they rely on "fallible humans" to translate and interpret the bible for them.

What the heck kind of sense does that make?

The bible, the bible, the bible......that's all these nutjobs ever talk about.

I would like them to show me in the bible where it says that if it's not in the bible then don't believe it?

Yea, OK, Martin Luther and the rest of them, get back to me on that one.

  • Did anyone read the book "Martin Luther: Hitler's spiritual ancestor" by Mr Peter F Wiener ?

It quoted a lot of Luther's own writings, such as:

    ● "You owe nothing to God except faith and confession. In all other things He lets you do whatever you like. You may do as you please, without any danger of conscience whatsoever." (see Grisar, "Luther", vol. iv, p. 145).

    ● "Be a sinner, and sin boldly, but believe more boldly still." ;  "The Saints must be good, downright sinners." ; "The Apostles themselves were sinners, yea, regular scoundrels…I believe that the prophets also frequently sinned grievously" (E62, 165).

    ● [extra-marital relations] "If you do not want, someone else does. If the wife does not want, take your servant" (E20, 72).

    ● "It is not forbidden that a man should have more than one wife" (E33, 327.).

    ● "I am Christ";  "I am the prophet of the Germans, for such is the haughty title I must henceforth assume."

These quotations give us a better understanding of the so-called reformation and its real meanings.
I am wondering was Mr Wiener a Catholic ? Were the quotations in his book real ?

  • Martin Luther told his dying mother, a Catholic, it was best to live in his new religion, but better to die in your religion.
    Please pray for my soul.
