"Love thy neighbor as thyself" ... thinking along those lines I feel we all should love ourselves in the sense that we should take care of our health and safety, make sure we have what we need food, clothing, and shelter.  
I thank God for He gave me good parents, gave me a loving husband,(rest his soul) children that take care of me now.

However having said all that, I often take a  review of my life, (something that comes with growing old) and although I do not want to live it again, (I had a happy life) but I do regret many times I have offended God, regret with tears.  Yet, knowing with all my heart He has forgiven me. Because of that love, I love myself, knowing also I did not deserve His mercy.
 
I suppose I do love myself in the sense that I want so much to persevere and not lose my soul. 

We must get to the point where we love our neighbors that much, as we do not want them to lose their soul, or we should not wish even our enemies to lose their souls. 

Do I wish I was someone else, as you stated the answer is NO.  I love being a woman. Tradhican in spite of what you think of women.    

It really is simple. People hate themselves because of mortal sin. They often don't know the cause, but being in mortal sin causes despair and self-loathing.

I lived in perpetual mortal sin for like 26 years and never hated myself. 

Love is a well-timed head butt, when the alternative is death and carnage.

Be my guest and establish the terms. I have no clue what the "terms"  are.

It is very simple. I ask the question: Why do people hate themselves? And people on CI answer. There are no "terms" other than that.

I was once told by a priest that people hate their own faults they see in other people. In other words, they hate the other people for having the same faults as themselves.

I find that behavior foreign to me, for I am in love with myself and could not think of anyone else I'd rather be. Shouldn't everyone love themselves and rather be themselves that anyone else?

I'd say that you did not understand what the priest meant. To me, it seems to mean that when people see faults (similar to their own) in others they do not recognise and acknowledge them as their own, but they hate the fault anyway and so the person.
I would not use the term "in love with myself" though. To be "in love with" is usually used to describe a romantic situation and is rather too sentimental to describe what is meant to denote "loving" in the Godly sense of the word.
Of course it would be absolutely futile to prefer to be someone else. God made us to be what we are.
