  • She first encountered me on WebMD after she saw that I suffered from scrupulosity, and we got into Catholic/Protestant  discussions, and she saw from an anti-Catholic website that Catholicism was not consistent with historical teachings about "Outside the Church, there is no salvation." She asked for a group that still held to the pre-Vatican II beliefs, and I suggested Most Holy Family Monastery.

What a bad move that was.

Now her fear and scrupulosity has increased, as they told her not to watch TV, as modern TV promotes evil, according to them, and now she's terrified of everything. Now she's searching for churches that hold to similar views of the Dimonds. I commented on how one supporter of the Monastery lacked compassion towards me when I suffered from scrupulosity, such as when I suggested I was afraid I would hurt myself, and asked if he was concerned, and he just said: Free will, man.

Now she wants his name on Youtube, and she defriended me because I refused to give it to her, out of fear for her well being.

What do I do? I know that some people in the traditionalist community look down on the Dimonds (as I saw on some of these forums). I want Christ to have mercy on us, and to guide us to Him. But I want to go back to the way things were, when I didn't have to travel two hours so I could go to mass and confession. Why would God allow an apostasy to happen?

  • Well, you can pray the "Prayer for Daily Neglects" to make up for your faults including this one, and refrain from referring folks to bad websites in the future.

To deal with the scrupulosity you both are troubled with, perhaps should pray for the virtue of stability?

On the bright side, all our faults are within the plan of God's Providence, and giving up TV is a good thing.

Since peace is necessary for clear thinking, I suggest also honoring an image of Our Lord's Sacred Heart daily for the sake of peace.

The Twelve Promises of the Sacred Heart

    Sincerely,

    Shin

She may have had scruples before, but now?  Whoa, Nellie.  Scruple city.

Giving up TV AND MHFM is even BETTER.

That was not a bad move gobosox, the MHFM was the reason I converted to Catholicism.

Simply tell her that the SSPX have priests who are exclusively ordained in the Tridentine rite, and tell her to go to their mass. She can ignore anything said about the Pope if anything ever is said, and simply take the benifits of the mass and the sound doctrine. Surely if she believes in Una cuм then this situation in the church makes it justifiable to go to mass, for "unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you". She has to go to mass and confession. Tell her the dimonds are not infallible, and that by their own ideology they say the only valid mass is the Tridentine latin mass, but at the same time they tell people to avoid all trad groups who still say the TLM. Tell her to get to know other trads in real life, and that the support from them is a great reason to go to mass to meet them. If she lives near CMRI tell her to go there as well, or SSPV.

  • Perhaps you are being a bit scrupulous about having referred her to MHFM?  Sometimes you just make judgment calls based on prudence.  You were just trying to help, and God uses even our mistakes in judgment for His own purposes.

Actually there are worse places to go when it comes to scrupulosity.  MHFM actually thinks it's OK to go to UNA cuм Masses, even Eastern Rite Masses ... so long as the priest isn't an "obstinate heretic" who imposes his heresy and you don't put money in the collection.  Some sedevacantist groups would say that you absolutely can't go to una cuм Masses.  Many Traditional groups tell people to quit watching TV.

Once you get them going to an SSPX Mass (as permitted even according to MHFM), then the priest there could help the person with scrupulosity in general.

  • I would recommend as many others have already:  Try to undo the damage to this poor soul that has been exposed to the Dimonds.

Recommend that she find an SSPX, CMRI or a good independent chapel and learn her Faith properly.

She'd be more damaged by reading your posts, Ambrose.  At least she seems to have on her own realized the problem with modern-day EENS rejection.

No, my posts reflect only the teaching of the Council of Trent, Papal teaching, the Code of Canon Law, the Doctors of the Church and the theologians.

It is you, and those like you that dissent from Catholic doctrine that pose a constant danger to souls, especially newcomers.

I hope that someday you wake up, repent for what you have done, and try to undo the damage to souls.
