I need to get a copy of the original info on LaSalette - the original printed pieces/reports/accounts of Melanie and Maximin. There is, I understand, a controversy about some LaSalette info, especially after 1851 or so. There is even a controversy that Our Lady ever said, "Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of anti-Christ." Some say Luther made that statement. So, does anyone know where original, earliest accounts can be found? I am working on something that requires accuracy about this, and any direction is truly appreciated and needed. Thank you. We agree that Luther was wrong, but it is illogical to conclude anything about La Salette from that.

Our Lady says "Rome" and not the Pope. Luther asserted that it was Pope as Pope.

Now, now, Roscoe - relax. I have a writing project that involves being accurate about Our Lady of LaSalette and this quote in particular. As I said. Only yesterday I ran across info that said the quote was questionable. I assumed that I could come to this site to find advice from experienced trads regarding good, reliable sources concerning the subject. Some of these people are well read and charitable. The statement "Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of anti-Christ." is part of the secret revealed by Our Lady to Melanie. you can read it here: http://www.catholictradition.org/Mary/salette3.htm

It is not contained in the report of what Our Lady spoke to Maximin and Melanie together, or to the secret which Our Lady revealed to Maximin.

I am aware that this part of the message has been controversial. I believe that La Salette was the first time Our Lady appeared to children and the Church did not know how to handle it. The children were not protected from predators who wanted to use them for their own purposes and the ensuing chaos placed doubt on the apparition altogether.

Thank you Nadir and Marlelar - I am looking for any original source material about LaSalette (in English, I do not read French). Whatever I use of Our Lady has to be what she actually said (not, of course, secrets still undisclosed). I ran across this website which gave me pause, and made me feel I should look into the "Rome/Antichrist" quote more closely, in order to be certain. You are very kind. Thank you.

My understanding is LaSalette( among other things) foretold that an anti-pope would occupy the Vatican. Considering that has happened about 40 times in the past, it isn't to hard to believe.

Just more evidence against v2 anti-church. :reading:

Merry, I have a copy of The Holy Mountain of La Sallette by Most Rev William Ullathorne, Archbishop of Birmingham who visited La Sallette in 1854. In Chapter IX, The Secrets, it states that Maximin and Melanie wrote down the secrets while sitting at two desks in one room. Maximin's version was seven paragraphs (numbered) and he asked how to spell the word "pontiff'. He was also told to rewrite it because he did it in a rush and carelessly.

Melanie wrote rapidly, suddenly stopped and asked the meaning of the word infallibly She also asked the orthography and the meaning of the word Antichrist.

Melanie's secret was considerably longer than Maximin's.

I would love to know the answer to the question myself. That was a very interesting article that you posted.
