I'm thinking of driving down to Dallas today, Sunday.
« on: January 21, 2018, 09:40:31 AM »
Hey guys.

I'm pondering a drive and overnight stay down in Dallas today.  (I'm up here in Tulsa.)  I've no idea what the Dallas area has to offer.  Are there any nice state parks this time of year?  What's to do in Dallas if I go?

You'll only be 5.5 - 6 hours from me! hahaha

Texas is absolutely enormous. It's big enough to be several states. I've lived near San Antonio for 13 years, but I never go to Dallas (unless you count the inside of the DFW airport -- most "San Antonio" flights lay over in either Dallas or Houston). I've only been to Austin twice and that's just 1 1/2 hours away.

Think of how many states you could reach from New York City, for example, if you were willing to get in the car and drive 6 hours.

For a San Antonian, you wouldn't even be able to leave Texas in 6 hours.

Texas is huge, especially compared to all those dinky New England "states".

We've decided to stay in town.  Visiting at church took up a lot of time, plus I'd rather save the money.  I've got to buy a computer soon, among other things.  So, might as well save the money.

But yeah, I don't like Tulsa's geographical location.  We have to drive 6-8 hours if we are going to get ANYWHERE.  Everything looks the same around here, too.  If we drive 12 hours west, we could get to those mountains.  But that's a lot of time and money to invest.  If we drive 8-12 hours northeast, we get to the area around St. Louis, Indiana, Ohio, etc.  If we drive north...there's nothing.  St. Mary's Kansas and Kansas City.  North Dakota.  If we drive south, there's Texas.  I haven't explored Texas at all, save Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo.  I really like that place.

I drove down to Houston from Cleveland one time.  Took me about 14 hours to get to the Texas border.  I thought, cool, almost there.  7 hours later I finally made it to Houston.
