  • For instance in, say, the Middle Ages, were there any laws regulating the spread of their heathen religions, such as not being able to preach it in public, not being able to blaspheme the Lord, ect. or were they just allowed to basically do whatever within reason?

    I believe it was illegal to spread non-Catholic religions and it was illegal to have public non-Catholic Churches. Remember back in those days unrepentant heretics who spread their heresies were burned at the stake.
