Genuinely curious how many of you Catholics here know who they were. They played such a pivotal role in Catholic history for so long but I get the feeling they've fallen out of memory.

Genuinely curious how many of you Catholics here know who they were. They played such a pivotal role in Catholic history for so long but I get the feeling they've fallen out of memory.
A good book to get started with is "Austrians: A 1000 Year Oddyssey" by Gordon Brook Shepherd. He personally knew the Hapsburgs and the beautiful Empress Zita allowed him into the private family archives in order to write his book. It does not focus on the family exclusively, but they are inseparable from our heritage.

I am acutely aware of the Habsburgs and greatly admire much of what they accomplished. I remember the sense of pride I had as someone of Germanic descent when I walked through the Hofburg's treasury in Vienna with my family.
I picked my up a great book on Franz Joseph while there, amongst other books about the royal lineage, and it has been wonderful to read. It is quite big in size and was quite expensive, but worth it.
I wonder how many are educated about the Wittelsbach family, who played a major role in the history of Europe.
